Apparenly the rabbit in the hat has been on vacation because that magic hasn't been working too good if the HC is only involved on the visits.

Great point on JB. He does have to make a great impression on Swider and his parents. Gerry will still need to be an integral part of this, since Swider has three other visits to go and a while before he makes his final decision.

JB as final closer is best exemplified by Moyer and Sidibe. In those cases, the players were pretty set on Syracuse and JB made a great final impression, which sealed the deal. This won't be that final impression, so Gerry will have to bring this home.
 
We have to have hit a HR on the visit. We have a real shot at this kid but we have to sell. This isn't a Tucker. He will not settle for being a second choice and that is good for us. by the way, don't sleep on Xavier here. he has already set up his visit there. He hasn't done that for Nova.

Yeah, good post. That's what I've been saying too. This kid is savvy. He wants to be a priority and I think he knows Duke is a Johnny-come-lately and they could have higher priorities.

The lack of a Nova scheduled visit is a logistical thing. It is highly likely to happen. There is a ton of mutual interest there. He likes their system. I'll learn more later this week.

JBs sales pitch will just have to last longer and be convincing since we're going first. Once he leaves, there's not much Gmac can do except stay in touch with the kid and be upbeat and positive about him being at SU. When jb has the 1-1 to talk about his role here gmac will have to stick to that message. But if that sales pitch by jb doesn't go great in Swiders eyes, there's not a lot gmac or any asst can do.

I agree that the heavy lifting on this visit is JB and will be a tremendous factor. I do think Gerry does have an important task the next few weeks, as Swider takes his other visits. As you said, he obviously will be staying in touch with the kid.

I do think it goes beyond just checking in with Cole, to an extent. Matt Moyer looks at Gerry as family. He's very close to him. I bring that up to show that Gerry has the potential to connect with these kids. Hopefully, G-Mac made a big impression on Swider and if Gerry feels like the tide is turning against us, he can use that connection to our advantage.

As I've said, Swider is a bright, level-headed kid and he will make the best decision for him. It shouldn't be about grabbing headlines. Very refreshing. This kid is going to be a great college player no matter where he lands.

Nice. Was it Dave and Buster's? I think they have a dancing game. Have inside sources there. Well, basically I know the bartenders well. Wish I was there, if so. No worries NCAA, I wasn't, and no underage drinking allowed.
 
Interesting that he is visiting us for three days and the other schools for two. Probably doesn't mean much or maybe it does. The school you are most excited for usually gets the first visit! Lol

They've gone the one-and-done route and he might be lost in the shuffle. He's confident in his abilities, so he could very well have a different perspective. If he just wants to go to Duke because they are his dream school, then...game over obviously.

The good thing is this kid won't drag this out and come out of a clown car like some recruits I could name. He will think about it and choose his best spot without the histrionics.

I think it helps that he's a skills player and not an elite athlete. Duke could find an elite athlete who also can shoot lights out from three. That's what Swider has to weigh.
