He is if he doesn't come here. If he does it was a team effort with GMac getting help from Red and Boeheim closing.

Not sure what your second sentence is about. I get that there may be some sarcasm there.

Again, Gerry gets credit for doing the heavy lifting on Moyer and Sidibe. Some folks gave him that credit. It doesn't mean JB didn't help when those players visited. That's what JB does. It doesn't mean that Hop wasn't involved in Sidibe's recruitment, because he was to some extent. That's a fact.

Gerry's been slapped around here, no question. However, if we land Swider, Gerry should absolutely get the credit. It is his recruit. No offense to you intended, but the idea that there is a vendetta against McNamara is over the top. He got big footed by UK and Duke and I'm sure he wants a nice win here more than any of us. When you have been given a huge role in our recruiting like Gerry has and you whiff on the two top targets, you are bound to catch some heat.

Let's hope we get Swider. If not, Gerry will remain under the microscope.

Well I think the thing is that there has been a lot of people who have gone at Gmac because of his "losses" to Duke and Kentucky. Can't help that but some people always need someone to blame. This is a platelet his win if we land Swider. However the narrative that it's not his win because other coaches helped is stupid. Of course other coaches pitched. They're coaches on the same team for god sakes of course they're all doing something.

I was being sarcastic but it does feel like at times Gerry is blamed for more than I would normally blame a 3rd assistant for. There are people who are results focused and have criticized him like Alsac for example that I think are fair. There are other people who can't seem to bring themselves to blame the head coach for certain things and then have to pick someone else and he seems like an easy target since the other two guys have been other places etc.

I assume there was an autocorrect with your "platelet" reference. LOL. Other than that, yes, I agree. My thing is that Gerry absolutely DOES need a signature signing. He did a nice job with Moyer and Sidibe but a top 50 guy would give him and SU what we need.

Gmac can definitely use a big win with swider...but in the flip side what IF he didn't lose out at the FINAL hour to both Duke and Kentucky...then the past few years Gerry would have been credited for Moyer/sidibe/green/Tucker and possibly swider...thats pretty damn good and I'm thinking he would have lots of schools wanting someone who could recruit like that. The narrative that he can't recruit and doesn't connect with kids is just crazy he obviously is doing a good job he just got the short end of the stick a couple times when we desperately could have used those few recruits. He'll be ok and like I said earlier, my gut feeling is he gets a much needed win soon enough!

I agree. It is stupid. That was the joke that I was making. Of course every person helps. I also think when you lose out on a kid he doesn't pick Boeheim and Syracuse as well as whoever the lead is.

I love your optimism

Yeah. He was being sarcastic towards me, I believe. Marek may use his year to catapult to the NBA, or a high paying International team. That's all I'm saying. I hope he stays for four years, but really doubt it. He has been playing well against grown men, while not being physically mature. Syracuse will give him a platform to be seen more in the best conference in CBB. Also, some good food, and training to bulk up a bit. Not from me of course, NCAA.

Well, someone else said that something like Marek was a more athletic version of Keith Van Horn, which is hyperbolic.

Yeah I remember seeing that, or the posts after. KVH was a superstar, so I get the reactions. Sometimes we just throw opinions out there. I said HW reminded me of Sherm, and people took it as I think he will be an all time great. Carey reminds me of Pearl in ways, but I don't say he will be Pearl. A lot of optimism, and opinions taken the wrong way.

This is in no way directed at you. Just a post to vent about how some react. I love everyone who bleeds Orange.

Have had a feeling this wasn't going well - based on no inside info, of course - but I have always said I hope I am proven wrong. Hopefully the tide is shifting and I will be with this one. We need kids like this if we want to return to the Top 10-15 on a regular basis.

I'm glad you're hear with your optimistic takes to balance out the negative ones. I've always considered myself to be fair, but some people have branded me as being negative, so I get where you're coming from.

I'll join the chorus who are optimistic about Swider. Hopefully he joins the fold by Independence Day.

Autocorrect KILLS me here lol. But agreed 100%

I'm actually more optimistic on Swider than I originally posted. Initially I gave Duke an 80% chance, with SU only 10%. I'm now increasing those odds to 35-40% for Syracuse. This is primarily due to the kind of kid I think Swider is. He seems more mature than most, and less concerned about the limelight.

He seems smart enough to weigh all his options and I think he will factor in potential playing time. I think we've gotta fighting chance. Go Orange!

I see you've been reading this thread. ;)

I feel a lot more confident about getting Swider now that you have increased SU's odds. I have to ask though...do these odds come to you in your sleep? Or is this a throbbing bunion kind of thing?

Not just Duke being his dream school but also Jon Scheyer was his favorite player on the Duke team he fell in love with. Scheyer is now a Duke coach and his recruiter.

Arinze onuaku injury strikes again...
