Swider is athletic? Watched him many times and in person against Creighton, he is slow footed and was toasted on defense and pulled. Solid three point shooter but IMO would him far behind Braswell in raw athletic ability.

Yes, he is. He isn't slow.

He also isn't Hakim Warrick. It isn't an A or B only choice, though -- there's a big continuum of athleticism, and Swider is above being an average athlete.

And again -- you were completely wrong about Edwards being unathletic.

Lydon was quick off his feet but not great laterally.

Griffin was quick but awful in the zone.

If Swider has good anticipation and knows the rotations he’ll be fine. He’s not going to Wes Johnson but he doesn’t have to be. A lot of Bras’ steals were anticipation, not pure athleticism

Yeah if you haven't played soccer you wouldn't understand just how much coordination is required. Too many think it's an easy sport. It requires as much if not more work than basketball and starting at a young age. A lack of coordination means you don't play the sport.
We played in an adult co-Ed league a few years ago. I had a hard time just kicking the ball cleanly. Almost zero power. Much more difficult than one who hasn’t played would think.

What sucks is Kadary used to be able to bail us out of slow starts.

I feel bad for Terrence walking into that.

How JB can have this blind spot for Girard is just so demoralizing.

I don't have a lot of it left but my hope is Symir can play the role of Scoop. Some compare him to Triche but I think the role he needs to have is Jardine. That is our best case scenario to not watch Joe play 35. That or Joe comes back someone much better than his first two years. Odds are low for either but I'll take option 1 as more likely by a nose.

Of that grouping Edwards would be the most athletic he seems mobile but cant jump out of the gym or wow you.
Because braswell is super athletic so bad comparison. Swider is athletic and is fully capable of driving to the hoop.

Yeah. I played since I was in grade school, AAU all that. Even then when we would play in tourneys that had kids from overseas there is a fluidity to their ability to handle the ball that is nuts. Incredible coordination to handle the ball from the ground to above the head and around an opponent. Also if you are stiff you are gonna be injury prone. Like a DB in football you need fluid hips or you are having trouble. That was my problem and it ended my chance of playing in college days with a torn quad that I couldn't walk on without a limp for 8 months.

I think you mentioned your kid had a bad injury right? Mine happened my SR year too. Was devastated and lost a partial scholly at a D2 school.

No comparison between Braswell and Swider. Swider was a top 50 rated player nationally. Not sure Braswell was even rated, maybe a 3 star. Braswell arrived at Syracuse as a total project. Swider has some great skills and he is not a plus athlete but pretty darn athletic guy for his size. I'm sure SU is selling him on coming in and starting from day 1. He and Benny will make quite a dynamic pair and hopefully Woody comes off the bench and gets his minutes as well. I guess the jury is still out on whether Woody returns but I hope so, there appears to be a defined role for him, assuming all the other forwards move on.

Can Swider shoot as good as that guy from Virginia? That's what I'm hoping for.

Hauser?

No, he means this guy.

Over the past 3 years Swider has only had 1-2 players next to him the same size. So he has been the Nova "Big " most of his time there. Given he isn't a stiff but isn't a big time athlete like Braswell was either he was in an odd position. Nova has used mobile bigs who could handle it or had a a legit post center. The stretch 4 has not been part of their DNA with Jay Wright. The action they run for Cole is typically that of a wing. They are a 4 out 1 in or 5 out team as we all remember.

Our offense is better with a stretch 4 who can play the wing of the zone, grab some boards and also is athletic enough to trail on the break. Braswell showed some ability there but Swider is more than capable in that role. He likes to shoot it from around the top of the key too. It fits our style of play on both ends.

All this speculation is like fantasy basketball. In the real world it is about matchups.
You can average 20 points a game and get shut down by a superior defensive player.
As for athleticism vs basketball chops, I like guys who know the game better than guys who can jump out of the gym.
A little of both helps, but in the long run basketball smarts > athletic ability.

Honestly he probably would have killed it at UVA too. Surprised they haven’t even reached out. They need players too.

Pretty much what I am getting from a few Villanova basketball forums as well, but they also think he would be a good fit for him here.

Well If you read this site yesterday you would’ve thought kadary was the next coming of Kobe Bryant.

Well some posters go overboard I guess, but you can't deny Kadary leaving isn't a kick in the balls.

It is I was just pointing out how fans tend to overreact to a player leaving or coming so I wouldn’t think much of what’s coming from there fans right now.

Its not overreacting when the best guard in atleast the last ten years transfers. And we’re left with crumbs on the table at guard. You under value him.

Last ten years?!?! We’ve had one and dones and guys that led this team to final fours and this kid is the best guard in ten years? Exactly the overreaction I was talking about.

Depends on what they are writing, some offer very fair critiques of a player and their strengths and limitations, no harm in that.
