Class of 2018 SF Cole Swider (RI) Transferring from Villanova to Syracuse

I’d be shocked if he doesn’t end up here and tbh not a huge fan of this sign. We are going to be so limited athletically next year and slow.

JG3, Buddy, Swider and Boeheim jr...I really don’t get what the staff is doing here to be frank. We are putting together a squad that has Colgate athleticism. Yes they are more SKILLED but how the hell does the staff expect us to compete athletically next year in the ACC. I’m not going to lie it’s getting tough to be excited about next year. I legit don’t think Swider is an upgrade over Newton and Symir certainly isn’t an upgrade over Kadary...I have no clue what the hell the staff is going for right now and it’s worrisome.

I'm curious to think who would be so much better than bringing in Cole? Athletes are nice but an Athlete just for the sake of it vs finding a kid who is a good athlete and who can play are two different things.

For example- Brakefield, Thompson and Timberlake are all really nice athletes but as basketball players you aren't getting much production. Woody returning is much better than any of those 3.

but - how many years on this board have we heard people complain that JB only recruits for the zone as opposed to players with actual basketball skill. Next years team will be the opposite (sans Benny) - a bunch of guys who can pass/shoot but don’t bring much athletically. I do think a mix is the best thing to do ... but seems we will be all in on shooters

Swider ended up not being a great fit at Nova but still played. Guys who are that big and can shoot are hard to find

I remember when we had all incredible athletes but couldn’t shoot worth a lick, which cost us games as well. I like what we are doing, especially given the current circumstances.

Woody is a high level athlete.

Braswell only took 8 3 point shots during his first 2 seasons so this year was really his first meangingful playing time.

He shot 29.8% from the 3 point circle.

Swider was over 40%. That is the biggest difference between the two, I think, at least on offense.

Bobby was a good defender and a poor rebounder. Cole is unlikely to be able to cover as much ground and make the reads Bobby did. I am hopeful he will be able to rebound better and score inside better than Bobby but their numbers in those areas are similar.

Bobby took over 72% of his shots this year from the 3 point circle. Cole took over 75%...

All Braswell misses were close and looked like they were going in. Can see him catching fire somewhere else if it clicks I think a guy with bad luck injuries like him needs a change hope he picks the right program.

I think Bras has the better instincts especially defensively but give me the guy less likely to break down.

Swider has never passed they eye test for me but I watch him knowing he’s Syracusefan dot coms most favorite recruit ever that didn’t chose us. This board loves the guy it’s the one instance I hope he comes on here and reads his thread.

The thing is would he leave somewhere he played 18mpg to go someplace else to play 18mpg? Highly unlikely IMO.

Nope. Swider is coming here because he’s starting and will get 28+mpg. Q isn’t coming back

Until we know the final configuration of the team it doesn't even make sense to talk about how good or not we will be. Kinda crazy...Also I like to wait and see what they all do over the summer and when they come back. Example: Absolutely no one on this board had any idea of how good Kadary was going to be until reports from summer scrimmages surfaced that indicated the kid was flashing some skills. So l am just going to wait and see before declaring anything at this point.

I’ve said for a while that 20mpg from Jimmy is perfect. I do think him and Swider could even play together with Jesse at the 5

I get this, but that’s the problem with needing so many guys. How do you build depth when nobody is willing to come off the bench?

Not really true re: Kadary. There were a few of us saying he was a stud before he had ever stepped foot on campus.

For the record, I think taking Swider is a no brainer if he wants to come. Probably not ideal to start him alongside Buddy and Joe but I think that’s mostly because we’re stuck starting Joe.
