So is this Lester's offense?

when we hire the 10,000th best high school coach, he'll dig for the right denominator our QBs are in the top 40% of all high school quarterbacks too our 2005 WR were in the top 40% of 40 speeds of all people on earth

Meh. You brought it up last week trying to make it a negative. It's at best inconclusive.

Don't get sad when other people use your stats in a way you don't like. I've liked plenty of your posts and value your stat diving - but sometimes you gotta know when to fold.

Remember when everyone thought McDonald was the problem? Those were the days.

Even with an off-season of implementing an offense, Hunt and the rest of the QBs will be learning from scratch again. Just like they did about 2 seasons ago. I haven't really seen anything from this coaching staff to get me excited about starting over again on the offensive side of the ball.

i knew there would be some nitwit who would make the obvious point that there are many more dIII schools, so I pointed that out in the original post

we are only hiring one guy. it doesn't matter that there are hundreds worse, the point is that there are 50 better at a level that's so low, hardly anyone gets promoted

Pitt's previous ACC opponents scored 20,19,16.56,51 and 40 against their D. Getting only 7 is pitiful no matter how you want to spin it.

I think you and OttoinGrotto summed it up perfectly. It would be one thing if the players did not have to learn a whole new terminology to go along with a new offense, but every coach wants everything the way he is used to - can't blame them. It will set everyone back some period of time - how much is anybody's guess, but it is probably not merely weeks.

Maybe Lester will prove to an offensive genius, but regardless, it will take time - again, more time.

Yeah, that's why I was never a big proponent of shaking up the staff when it happened. People acted like his demotion was going to be some magic wand for the offense. Now I see people posting about our QBs not being able to execute but the play-call was good (aside from the option to the short-side). Pretty sure we had a more than serviceable QB AND decent play-calling before McDonald was demoted. People forget we were moving the ball up and down the field, just couldn't score in the red zone.

What'd we get from the demotion? Most likely our most connected recruiter in South Florida leaving and an offense where our d-lineman have scored more TDs than our RBs. And yes, I do understand this is Lester running most of McD's offense. Yep, there were injuries left and right as well.

Point being - I think, even with Hunt going down in the Louisville game, long-term would have been better to not demote McD. Let AJ and Kimble run the offense they were recruited for. Just like Shafer is getting another year, McDonald shouldn't have been demoted.

a team used a wide receiver as qb a few weeks ago and scored more points

this is a scheme issue -not a talent one

we have a oline coach with zero oline experience - a oc who got the job because he can recruit not because he has a understanding of how to flow a game

staff is a complete mess

but hey we still have the ole mac time excuse - it never gets old - even when it was used for 4 years durring the groober era

To get an idea of what kind of offense Lester might install, I looked into his background. He played under offensive legend, Bill Cubit, who played HS football in my area before going on to star at Delaware and coached under Bill too at Western Michigan. (Bill's brother, Mark played basketball at the Cuse in the late 70's). Here is an article on Bill Cubit's offense at Western Michigan. If Lester stays true to his pedigree, you can expect a pass heavy offense, with emphasis on tight ends and the 12 personnel or two tight end set and a good balance of pass and run.

The board has had an extensive effort to read the tea leaves in this regard. His best and last year at Elmhurst he ran 67% of the time and passed 34%. you can find team stats for the Bluejays here.

And only one that Shafer knew and trusted enough to bring in as QB coach. Apparently he handled himself we enough to get promoted (after "helping" in the booth with McDonald).

You attempted to knock back any criticism preemptively - but it doesn't make it any less true or relevant.

I don't think you can tell he'll be good based on those stats (was busting on you) - but you sure as hell can't tell he'll be bad. He was a competent D3 OC. No more, no less.

As always - appreciate the personal attack.

Lester said he has the playbook for the new offense. He's been running it for years. "It's been sitting on my shelf for two years."

@Stephen_Bailey1
Lester said he's not sure if he'd rather have bowl practices, but key for players will be mastering verbiage and that can be done off field.

@Stephen_Bailey1
Majority of changes to playbook came in 5 years after working as defensive coordinator at North Central College in 2007.

@Stephen_Bailey1
Lester on offense: "I've had people tell me it's spread. I've had people tell me it's 12 personnel. I've had people tell me it's 20."

@Stephen_Bailey1
Lester said a mobile QB helps in system, but not necessary. Reads/throws more important. "I'd take (Ryan) Nassib in a heartbeat to run it."

@Stephen_Bailey1
Lester said he'd like to call it in booth, but is flexible. Called it on field from 2008-12 as head coach at Elmhurst.

‏@DoubleE07
@Stephen_Bailey1 @Dan_Lyons76 people should tell him it isn't working

@Stephen_Bailey1
@DoubleE07 @Dan_Lyons76 He hasn't implemented it yet. Impossible during the season.

First there was the wing t, then the power I then the West Coast Offense and the N-zone now the 2007 North Central playbook!

That means the Elmhurst Bluejays Dr offense. His last year there they ran 2/3 of the time. Not exactly Bill Cubit-like.

i prefer offenses that people can identify. shrug

Look, he was head coach so his record matters. If you think it doesn't then we will just have to agree to disagree. If you have other metrics great, I would love to see them.
Is there a link for the petition? How about one for getting rid of Gross. His "good decisions have been few between the s#itty ones. The worse of course was GROB. The best MAY have been the ACC joining. Shafer is in the wait and see mode.

It sure as hell it the option. AJ hasn't figured out how to or when to toss the ball back to the RB. He barely avoided bad TOs on his flips.

Lester should be given the opportunity to design his own offensive scheme this off season. He is getting a top RB in Strickland and two new QBs to run tat system.He should have Estime and Broyld back to help the WR unit.Custis might become a regular and Ishy should be stronger. Dunkelberger could be a big help if the TE is once again recognized as a position of importance for the offense beyond just blocking.
