SU and UConn set to play at MSG this year

Hi,
Sorry to be a Debbie Downer regarding your uplifting and inspirational dedication to the ACC fandom process. However, to be a little accurate I think your victory over RPI 32 UConn probably went a long way to helping get Syracuse into the Tournament last year so you could go on that great run. In fact in the ACC Virginia Tech 89, Clemson 131, FL ST 82, G Tech 69, NC ST 123, Wake 159 and BC 250 all had worse RPI. Georgetown at 106 wouldn't have been a big RPI helper but not terrible either way. I don't believe losing a game to RPI 106 is considered a bad loss. I know that there are other metrics used now in conjunction (Kenpom, Sagarin, BPI etc.) but just used this one because it was the easiest to research.

No UConn fan's opinion on the ACC and SU and fandom of any stripe bothers me in the least.

You guys are ex-Rivals.

SU should schedule whatever teams it needs to prepare for the season and to help make the Tournament field.

But these nostalgia games need to stop. The Big East is dead and gone. Let's stop trying to partially resurrect it to sell tickets.

It's time for the fan base to dedicate themselves to the ACC. Those with one foot still in the Big East are slowing the process.

At least Bayside makes a cogent argument. How do we fans DEDICATE ourselves to the ACC and how does playing UCONN hinder that?

It has to do with ergs of energy expended or whatever measure there can be of total fan attention paid.

And the University can help by not feeding the beast or inhibiting the shift of fan attention by not scheduling our ex-Rivals in nostalgia games.

And relative to Bayside's "cogent arguments", are you referring to his response of "Exactly" to one of my posts on the Ex-Rivals scheduling?

Can you expound upon this? I had no idea that "fan attention" was such a limited resource.

Maybe you should talk to Louisville fans.

What's irrational about it? Please explain.

The fact that we were a bubble team last year is no way connected to the fact that we played a few old Big East teams.

It was connected really to JB being put on the shelf.

It was the game of the year for GU and SJU.

I highly doubt the people clamoring for this game have actually went to UConn-Syracuse games in CT. They have a real nasty portion of the home fanbase towards Syracuse fans.

I have no problem with rivalry games but UConn fans are the most thin skinned, seeking validation fans in the nation. Teams like Providence and St. John's want to be UConn's BB rivals but UConn doesn't care about them. UConn fans expected Syracuse to have its back on realignment when we never owed them anything. We were the only old Big East FB school not to attach ourselves to UConn's stupid lawsuit against the ACC in 2003.

This game is more beneficial to Connecticut than it is to Syracuse. I hope with the change in the AD and chaos that followed that this contract is not signed and this game is shelved down the road. We could play pretty much any Northeast school at MSG and not have to deal with that fanbase.

All I am doing is giving the FairfaxOrange side of the argument a substantive reason which he asked for.
If Syracuse felt the BB rivalry with UConn was must play we would have done a home/home with them like we have done with Villanova/Georgetown/St. John's in 2013. The rivalry isn't must play because JB is only playing them in MSG and not on campus. Outside of Missouri-Illinois no other top rivalry games are played off campus.

Syracuse-UConn is not must play. If we played Maryland instead of UConn in MSG I doubt anyone would complain.

I am shocked that you have encountered hostile and unpleasant fans from an opposing fanbase when attending SU games outside of Syracuse.

It's cool to play a team with mutual animosity! We should do it in the garden every year, or maybe an invitation with the johnnies and nova or g town. Providence and the Hall.

I have been to games for basketball at Boston College, Providence, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Villanova, Louisville, Pittsburgh, NC State, Duke, North Carolina, Virginia.
Football games at Michigan, Tennessee, BC, Rutgers, Pitt, WVU, NC State and many other others.

Only 3 fanbases have been nasty to me as a visiting fan UConn basketball, UConn football, WVU football.

Trash talk and fun banter is fine. Fans crossing the line is another. That fanbase think we owe them more than we do. Your post tells me you don't go to many road games which is fine as you don't realize most fanbases aren't bad to opposing fans unless the opposing fans are idiots.

Throw in BC so everyone's included, and it could be one of the best early season ball events.

We could all go somewhere warm if that makes it more fun:noidea:!

As usual, you like to jump to conclusions about things you know little about (in this case, me) and speak in absolutes. I have no doubt you have had the lousy experiences you describe, but that obviously should not dictate how SU schedules going forward.

Dave Gavitt Classic at MSG could happen
if you rotated
1 of St. John's, Villanova, Georgetown, Providence, Seton Hall, Marquette
1 of Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Louisville, Boston College, Notre Dame
1 of Rutgers, West Virginia, Penn State, Maryland
1 of Cincinnati, Connecticut, South Florida, Temple

This is a Holiday tournament that could work if they found lower teams to play at the campuses and then the 4 teams played 2 games at MSG.

Syracuse Hall
U Conn. St. John's
G Town Providence
Nova BC

That's a pretty cool preseason tourney! We could brand it and make it work for all involved.

You are one step ahead of me, but on the same page?

Read my signature. I am giving my opinion in everything I say. You are the one who challenged my opinion. I honestly don;'t care what you think but you like to challenge what I say. I don't care if you interpret me as speaking in absolutes because it just shows you don't know me and I am sure you are glad about that and I can tell I am glad I don't know you.

I am giving examples to support my conclusion. If you think I think my opinion matters more than a person who disagrees with me again you show how ignorant you are about me. I have no problem with people disagreeing with me but that doesn't mean I don't have a right to state my opinion. I really can't stand how you challenge people it is more lazy than annoying.

I have no interest in continuing with you as you are a waste of my time. Obviously the SU AD thinks differently than me and guess what I get it but your posts do nothing but annoy as if you are the cop who gets to say what is fair and not fair. Unlike you I get I am not always right.

Save your energy and use the ignore button on my posts.

A Big East team just won the national title.

What does that extraneous point have to do with the conversation?

I was, of course, talking about the Big East with SU and Pitt and UConn and Miami and all the others in it. And not the bastardized version of it that exists today.

SU no longer plays in it and the league really doesn't exist in the form it did.

Is that dead enough for you?

If you have one foot in the old world, you can't commit to the new one.

I'm just tired of the constant whining on here about the good old days of the BET in MSG and the Big East.

People that are all amped-up because we are playing UConn seem to be a little delusional. They are imagining its one of those games that used to matter. It isn't.

It's a life-line for UConn and a money grab for SU.

But as PT Barnum one said, "There's a sucker born every minute".

Other than we lost to them. SJC was bad. GU was mediocre.

How can you not understand that?

Did you enjoy the game at B4A? Was that but entertaining?
