There's only been on Coach in the last 35 years

Way too early for that. And quite frankly, you or I have no idea where our coaching staff ranks in the ACC. Not exactly even playing fields we are starting off at. I suggest if Dungey turns out to be the next Tom Brady, SS will look a lot smarter. There is going to be plenty of ammo to attack SS with the year. We have some games where we will look very bad. And by the way, I was around from the start of Jb and if you are turned off by SS ISIS remark, you would have let jb go years ago.
BB is completely different than FB. Roster sizes make it a completely different beast. JB made the NCAA tournament 17 of his first 20 seasons. Expectations are completely different. Find me 1 season JB had that was close to what SS did last year. Even in 1981-82 he still had a winning record.
SS is not JB. I know you know that. What P5 team was going to hire SS as a HC? SS got the job to continue the momentum of Marrone Era. Not take 1 step back to go 2 steps forward(which we haven't even done). SS maybe would have been a contender for a MAC job but not a P5 job and that is factored into my reasoning. He was a first time HC given the keys to a P5 job thus his leash shouldn't be as long.

I could be wrong but I thought his point was that JB has put his foot in his mouth more times than anyone could probably count. Shafer made a really dumb comment but JB holds the trophy for making dumb comments

Serious? C'mon man we got people yelling 2-0 and are ignoring the middle of that game. You honestly should know better. If I am anything I am consistent.

We are 2-0. People have given reasons for the middle (wasn't O coaching, as much as it was time of possession and the D not getting of the field). I have seen very little "we are all set on offense" - more of an agreement that the system is sound enough and Dungey is growing enough that things are moving in the right direction (as of right now).

You are consistent.

you are correct. Alsacs said that the ISIS statement turned him off to SS. If he was around in the late 70's , that statement would be way down the list of JB gaffes.

I agree and I didn't insinuate you were. I said you and I are on the same page on SS. I do not hate SS I find his coaching frustrating at times but believe he loves SU but I would like another HC. You haven't said what I have said. I gave the man credit for improving our speed. If I am going to be critical I am going to give praise when its warranted.

That's a lonely island you're on. Getting rid of SS sets us back for a couple of years. Again.

JB could have said stupid stuff but he was winning. When you win games the heat isn't intense. JB made the NCAA tournament every year but 2 in early 80's after already establishing himself his first 5 years. If Frank Beamer made the ISIS comments after a tough loss he would get the benefit of the doubt but not an unproven Scott Shafer. Even though if I were a VPI supporter that type of comment would sound alarm bells.

You really are an idiot.

I hate Shafer and want him to fail. Man, you are dumb.
Everyone knows you hate the guy. You have been talking about it for two years + now. The whole board knows it. That's why you're getting so many responses

gotcha

So what's it going to take to change your stance on this coaching team? Is it even possible? Because if it isn't then why bother commenting in the football thread until the whole project gets cleansed?

Since you bring up Frank Beamer, he went 2-9 and 3-8 in his first two seasons. I bet people at Va Tech wanted him gone as well. And since you weren't here at the time, people wanted jb out. Lots of people. He lost early in the tournament year in and year out. I was a lonely voice in support back then. A lot more Igor's than dasher's it seemed. I don't know whether SS will turn out to be the right guy. I hope so. But one thing I know for certain, he deserves a chance. His first year was good and his second year, we lost 3 qb's. No one could win or look good after that.

I make no bones that SS lost me after the ISIS PC after the UL game. A HC never should behave like that ever. I like SS he seems like a good person but our coaching staff in the ACC is bottom third. We as SU FB fans have to stop being concerned with being a stepping stone job and embrace that and get the best coach we can. Who if they turned us around would move on.

Ridiculous. You don't like a guy because he made a poor analogy?!?!?

Dasher you and I are going to disagree on this one. I am fine with it as it isn't personal but honestly a difference of opinion. Beamer was taking over a bad program. SS was taking over a 23-23 mediocre program. I think KOIII did a good job explaining that. If you think SS is going to lead to us to what Beamer did at VPI say it now? I think we are going to be mediocre forever under SS. At best 8-4/9-3 and at worst last year.

When the guy did what he did and hired Lester as his guy. He gambled and we have to give him this year, but I am from Missouri as far as it goes SS. When he does well I give him props and when he does poor I call it out. I don't believe this a Beamer or Boeheim situation with him and we are more praying than expecting to really improve on the CFB landscape we are nowhere close to mattering on even minor scope.

And since we are talking about behavior, I think SS behaves at the top 1% of all college football coaches. No kid has been killed being up on a windy platform like with Kelly at N.D. Petrino? The stuff Jimbo fisher allows to go on at FSU. It appears to me that SS runs a tight ship. He has behavior down. He seems to have recruiting down as well. He has defense down. We need more play makers no doubt. I think our backs are below ACC average. I think our wide outs are below ACC average. We might be getting their with qb with both Dungey and Rex. We add speed to the skilled positions, and we are on our way.

I like the guy and find him to a good person. I just don't want him to be the SU FB HC.

What does ignoring the middle of the game mean??? That is just foolish ! You can look at every game that every team has played and find parts of the game that weren't perfect and can be criticized.
The truth is SU is SU basically beat the crap out of what looked like a decent WF team in the second half. SU looked excellent on both sides of the ball.

I also noticed that poeple are ignoring how well the OL played in this game I would say there is lot to be happy about.

Looks to me that SU is way underrated team and is likely a lock for bowl game and a good season barring major injury problems

Alsacs, we might be a 8-4 football program with an occasional year up and down. We have limitations. Upstate New York is not Florida when it comes to high school football. If that is who we are, that is who we are. Just who do you think we are going to bring in here? We get small school coaches to come here. Mac, P. Marrone the exception but he was far from first choice. I will leave the name that shall not be repeated out. And of course it's not personal. I will still be your friend even though you are wrong. By the way, you may turn out to be right. No one is saying different. It's just too early to know for sure either way.

I said this last year I wanted Marshall HC Doc Holiday. He is who Pitt should have hired. He can recruit FL and WPA. The guy would use us as a springboard. I also liked Lincoln Riley the OC from ECU who went to Oklahoma.

I want an up and comer who will use us. Then you can hire somebody for stability if the inroads have been established. We hired SS for stability and while I like the person I didn't like the hire at the time and nothing has changed my opinion. We still struggle offensively and gamble on defense and hope to get stops to win. I like Dungey and I have given SS credit for increasing team speed but our offense is still a work in progress that hopefully is on the uptick. Hunt doesn't make those passes that Dungey did so while that kid's injury sucked it definitely gave the passing a game a boast from Dungey.

How do you know there will be a lot of games we will look bad?? Do you or anyone else know the future? I would say SU is better this year in all 3 phases of the game than last year.

Despite the record and all the injuries SU was competetive in almost every game they played last year . The defense was good in every game. I don't see any team in the ACC this year that looks unbeatable I think people are understimating this team.

You think we will be competitive against FSU down there? You think we will be competitive with LSU? I really hope you are right. But I don't think we are there yet.

We lost to a bad Miami-OH team under Gerg too! That loss was almost as bad as that PSU game...almost. I walked twice around the Dome's hallways in the middle of the Akron game asking why? PSU game I just got up and left mid 3rd Q.
I think losing to Akron was the low point of the GRob era, but the PSU annihilation was close. It wasn't just the score or the game. It was the fact that moral was so low that the Dome was white and blue. The crowd balance - in our own stadium - was terrible.

That said, PSU couldn't do that to us again. We are moving up in the world. We have a long way to go, but we are moving back up.

I was at the game. I thought my brother, a diehard since the late '50's, was going to cry. Admittedly I wasn't a diehard FB fan until 7 years ago when he talked me and my other brother into getting the $99 season tickets. Last year was tough to live through but I can't imagine ever giving up my season ticket now.

That was also one of the best PSU teams in quite a while. They were a last second FG away from playing in the national title game.

It was as mismatched as you could get.

Just saw the Bowling Green highlights on College Football scoreboard. At the end, Tessitore said "that's not good for the ACC"

Ugh.
Thank God Maryland left for the Big 10! Now someone needs to inform the boneheads chattering in the studio.
