I got back about 4 AM from the game and am still thrilled I got to participate in yesterday's festivities. We got our butts handed to us for much of the game but the Clemson game was an important event for SU, no matter the final score. The ACC is going to be very good for our football program financially, athletically, and historically. It was great to be at the first game of a new era against the ACC's premier football program. The tailgate was superb and I was able to meet more board members including CTO. Two things stuck out - she made it possible for Otto's visit and was on a mission to meet any board members she didn't know. Nicely done.
The Clemson fans were great. Very active, friendly, and loud. The team wasn't half bad either. I think the most telling stat I saw this week was that Clemson's starters averaged .75 stars more than SU on a scale of 1-5. It showed. I'm not really a believer in the stars thing, but we clearly have work to do in recruiting if we're going to compete with the best in the league.
Overall it was a great and meaningful day. More fans showed up than for any other game since 2000 and I was there. Very cool. The kids kept plugging and looked pretty good in the third quarter but kudos to Clemson. They are a very good team. Really enjoyed seeing so many board members - Beadle, Ottomets, CuseJuicy, OE, TexanMark, Lincolncuse, Tomcat, Calvin, Ilanz, Cuyahoga, Reed, CuseRegular, Jeremy, CuseCrew, et al. Hope to see you all again soon.
Oh...on my way home I got passed on the road by a big Clemson truck. It blew right by me and I could never catch up. Somehow fitting, don't you think?
