The revenue potential of suites is huge.Found it...Suite revenue from the Yum center...
Louisville hoops revenue
However, note that it dwarfed Louisville football when Louisville was in the Big East but Football has now drawn even...
It will be interesting if at some point in the renovation process, more suites are added to the Carrier Dome. They have to considering it.
I would think the most tempting options would be to
1) cannibalize the 200 level seats for football and basketball, in event extending suites around the entire perimeter of the dome. The ones on the east side would not be usable for basketball and wouldn't get top dollar. The ones on the west side would be fantastic for basketball and good for football. They would command a lot of money.
or
2) add suites on the west end of the dome above the existing third level seats, that would look out on the field/court from where the big scoreboard is today. When the center hung new 4 sided scoreboard is added, that scoreboard on the west wall of the Dome really isn't needed any longer. They could make a lot more money building suites up there.
The seats would be closer to the action and more valuable if they opt to get rid of the 200 level sections, but it would disrupt a lot of long time loyal season ticket holders and finding replacement seats for them would probably cause many season ticket holders on the 300 level to be affected. I think there is already going to be a lot of angst and issues with long time season ticket holders getting moved if we go to individual seats instead of benches, which if reports are true, will make about 10% of the seats sold in the Dome disappear. This would make a bad situation much much worse.
Adding suites above the 300 level on the west end of the dome would be a lot less disruptive and I think the seats would still be of high quality. In some ways, they might be more desirable, in that you might be able to take an elevator up to what would be a fourth level very easily, there might be less competition for bathroom access, maybe concessions too.
If SU wants to get a big bump in revenue, this would be one of the best ways to do it.
