Virginia Gameday...

N know gonna come from guys bout joey. Only thing will say he took few shots that were bad but overall he didn’t try to take over or force himself. He didn’t have the matchup to exploit n didn’t try to be hero. Yes only had one point but this was game clearly gait wanted midfield to handle. As attack wasn’t involved for much of it. As long as joey isn’t costing us or forcing it, n we win don’t matter if he scores pts or not. He still drawing eyes n defense still worries where he is. He hit lost few times. I just do wish he take better angle shots n not stop so short coming from behind. Push higher or get to middle.

A lot of talent on this team joey doesn’t need to be that guy. He just needs let game come to him n play whatever role it is we need for that game.
And that's what he did today mostly let the game come to him or not

Is it me or seems every coach n team we play has a solid game plan for us but we never for them ? On both sides. Gait just can’t coach against good coaches if makes sense
I disagree, you who are all over Gait and think he can't coach speak to soon. Let the game play out. No use in getting on the coach unless it was 7-1 in the first Q!

Huge win. Big kudos to Hiltz, that game sealing goal was more than garbage cleanup, he soaked some serious contact and battled for that one. Love the way he is playing this year. Real grit to his game that is coming through.

Cap tip to McCool, he’s been playing really well since the Harvard game. Things could have really backfired for the team had he not dug deep. Really impressed with his play this year.

Rhoa maybe needs to get his stick checked. He wasn’t even close to the cage on most of his shots. Will definitely need him the rest of the season, can’t afford performances like that. He’s simply too important. Big ups to Sammy English for stepping up.
I agree with all of this, but especially with rohas shooting. Took 2 lefty shots from left side early in game pulled both bad. His shooting was obviously different than usual and it did look like something was up with his stick. Good catch!

Not sure how we won that game but I’ll take it. Not our best showing.
I was at the game and we definitely came out flat and Uva came out hyped. The Syracuse cream rose to the top at the end. UVA’s final several possessions were garbage, they turned the ball over carelessly and we were able to win going away. Fun afternoon!

Mullen maybe getting a rep with the officials for some reason, gets called early way to much often when nothing is discernable from watching live or on TV. Johnny did what he had to do late, won those last few and that last one was just enormous
Same thing seemed to happen to him in another game earlier this season maybe Harvard? Not sure but it seemed like in both that game and this one that the refs were doing something to throw him off.

Don't think it was Harvard but your right it absolutely happened another Game, maybe Towson? He fought through it but definitely something to keep an eye on. Bigger concern is the lack of depth. Drew Angelo has not looked good the last few games. Need him to be better. Cuse may need to hit the portal for a backup Fogo we don't have one in this coming class.

Millon with a big day in the stat book, but like last year, he really can kill them with the turnovers and impatient shots. Some of his shots were weak angle early in the shot clock that got it quickly going back the other way for us. They obviously need him on O, but he hurts them a lot by not valuing the ball. Thought we created offense for them by sliding to him even if he had not gotten a real step on figueras

Good point on Millon. He reminds me of Dordevic in Gaits 1st year. Has to take a lot of shots some of which is due to the fact that he doesn't have a ton of help around him. Again not defending Millon completely but he's the only real dodging threat save for Colsey (somewhat) and the UVA midfield has been a disaster. Shutz has completely regressed, Hackett has like 5 pts the entire year and Balsamo has been worse. There missing a number of guys to injury of course but they shouldn't be this lost offensively

Mullen stats by game - it certainly wasn't Harvard. ;)

final possession of the game he threw it away on a lazy one handed pass. No bueno

Doesn't appear Deere was hurt but one thing I think is clear Anderson showed why he should be at attack this game. As long as Thomson is out he should be at attack. Once Thomson is back he should definitely be on the 2nd mid line

Gait has gotta go man, zero energy and can’t inspire guys to be better than they already are.. offense holding up in every clear even with space in front of them. McCool continues to struggle low… my goodness
Terrible leader for these boys! Win or lose we should be able to develop these kids on and off the field! Has created a horrible culture, these kids have to take over for us to win a championship. We’re gonna win this one!

Now there’s a pair of insane takes.

Good lord

Absolutely! Anderson was fantastic! He finally got an opportunity. He’s such an exciting player, and we finally have an attackman who can dodge and draw a slide. We haven’t had one for years! I understand this sounds crazy, but I would play Anderson, Hiltz, and Thomson (when he comes back) on attack and Leo, English, and Hottle at middie. Hottle is a stud, and, like Andersen, the only thing stopping him is the lack of playing time. Spallina can have all of the points he can get against weaker teams, but he cannot dodge against a good defender and his shot is average, at best. He was not even an All ACC attackman last year (and they pick 6 attackman!), and he probably won’t be one this year, either

I think your selling Spallina short. Yes he's struggled against elite poles but keep in mind he is drawing each teams best defender which is freeing up our other attackmen especially whoever is drawing that 3rd pole. Spallina playing with a truly great dodging threat I think would open up his game which is why I've been begging to get Anderson extended run.

I do think that when Thomson comes back he and Anderson should split time between attack and the 2nd midline. Anderson is to good not to play

Here’s a stat - through the 9 games before this one, we are #1 in the ENTIRE NATION in turnovers per game! We average 12.8 and the second best averages 13.5, so after todays game with 8, we are likely to be more than an entire turnover ahead of the next best team in the country. We are also 3rd in clearing percentage!! First quarter was rough no doubt about it, but an incredible 1 turnover and one failed clear in the entire second half. That was the difference today. Does Gait get credit for the turnaround, or only blame for the bad start?

For those of interest.

Nasty Nester gave up 4 HR's in the 1st to:

Goldy
Belli
Judge
Wells
3 HRs on the first 3 pitches the Yankees saw!!!
9 HRs total. Aaron Judge 3 HRs, including a grand salami. Yankees won 20-9.

Staff has done a much better job against the 10 man this year. Struggled a bit last week but only 8 today is very impressive
