How could he resign and still collect the balance of his contract? He should resign, to avoid having the University fire him.
Win-win.
He took down his big SU flag outside his house. Feel for him. Guy loves SU but that had to hurt because sometimes it’s the small things that make a big impact on ya
Last home game Red out.Announcing him moving on before season end and trying to work in a way to thank him for taking on the job after JB… if only we could find a way to make that work and go out with grace as it pertains to him moving on.
I’ll admit that I’m a little mad at Red. Not a ton. Not furious anger or anything like that.I'm not "mad" at Red.
He will do well. He is a home run assistant coach hire or smaller school head coach hire on the East Coast. It stinks when good people get fired, but Red will be fine. He's done a lot of good for SU and been rewarded handsomely. We need to save this dying brand or a lot more heads will role and a lot more SU flags will come down.

The man will ALWAYS be a part of the SU FAMILY. I really feel badly for him. He was given a shot at a job he likely dreamt of getting. I am sure he gave it his best effort. It is not easy following JAB even if Jim's last few years were his worse. That's so sad...
I don’t think so. The university isn’t firing him so let’s speculate. If they aren’t there is a 0-5% chance he is retained still due to some insane run in the tourney.I believe this thread is cruel and innappropriate
He situated himself in the infrastructure that boeheim created. Lazy for sure.I’ll admit that I’m a little mad at Red. Not a ton. Not furious anger or anything like that.
Red knew that he was very likely going to be the HC at SU for a number of years before he was hired. And yet given all that time to prepare it really seems like he did the bare minimum.
He clearly didn’t scheme up a coherent offense. He didn’t lean into relationships with key donors. He didn’t get past his aversion to fundraising. He didn’t canvas the nation in search of strong assistant coaches. He didn’t do his homework on how NIL and the portal would impact roster construction.
I don’t fault him for taking the job. I was actually supportive of his hiring.
I just wish he put a lot more time and effort into preparing to be successful from day 1 as HC. He didn’t and the results followed.
Deals can be made. John - I think we could agree to part ways (maybe restructure the buy out a bit to help) so lets make a joint announcement. This allows SU to start asking around publicly. How could he resign and still collect the balance of his contract?
Great post. Especially coming into the make or break year 3 where he didn’t upgrade assistants, use the full NIL budget, commit to learning modern offensive schemes etcI’ll admit that I’m a little mad at Red. Not a ton. Not furious anger or anything like that.

This is scarily the exact sentiment currently being leveraged for Hop. We're going to get a clear-cut answer if this AD has learned anything.
Zero chance we play as an unseeded nit team in front of 1500 peopleI would expect SU to accept an NIT invitation. Why would we not? At least let the players play in one more event before it is all blown up.
Especially when we will be firing Red before the NIT.Zero chance we play as an unseeded nit team in front of 1500 people
So he’s just not going to support Syracuse anymore? I recognize the flag thing is more symbolic than it is a literal “removal of support” but the university gave him a lot of opportunity, not exactly their fault it didn’t work out.He took down his big SU flag outside his house. Feel for him. Guy loves SU but that had to hurt because sometimes it’s the small things that make a big impact on ya

He has a lot in common with Jerrod Mayo. You know how awful a comparison that is.He situated himself in the infrastructure that boeheim created. Lazy for sure.
I have no qualms saying this was a disaster and he is a good former player that I enjoyed watching. Can hold two thoughts in my head
The bolded continues to blow my mind. Wildhack said if Red wanted another assistant, then he'd have the money for another assistant. Red passed. How any head coach in 2025 wouldn't want to be able to get more man hours from his coaching staff is unfathomable.Great post. Especially coming into the make or break year 3 where he didn’t upgrade assistants, use the full NIL budget, commit to learning modern offensive schemes etc
Do you really want to drag this out any longer? At this point in the year, the sooner we officially start the search, the better.
He absolutely had to be hired. 1. He earned the right. 2. The optics would have been horrific. This sucks. I know Red has to go, but it just stinks that he was even given the HC job in the first place. Fault lies with many people, but it does suck when you have a dude that was such a big part of the history of SU get relieved of his duties, albeit the right thing to do.
Heard this second hand, but was also told his office is already pretty much cleaned out.He took down his big SU flag outside his house. Feel for him. Guy loves SU but that had to hurt because sometimes it’s the small things that make a big impact on ya
