Wildhack Presser 10 AM Monday

Pretty well known around the program that Dino and Gilbert weren’t buddies. I’m sure some of how JW feels about SG would have come from Dino.
Not disputing your info (and I appreciate you sharing)…

That seems crazy to me - not having a tight personal relationship, or at least a complementary personality, with your OC is wacky AF.

Your edit was kind of my takeaway from what Wildhack wants to do. His harping on the inefficiency of getting the plays in and special teams (tightening up), keeping the good pieces we already have (paul pierce/tony white and schimdt) and building out the supporting cast. I might not like it but I can understand it.
Yeah, I just wish this happened after 2019, since that was a flaming wreck. In November 2021 it feels a bit like closing the barn door after the horse has escaped. But all we can do is hope for the best.

Only quibble - due to COVID keeping last years coaching churn low, this season is particularly high. Waiting (though I'm not sure is the right football decision for 2022) might work in our favor in better candidates in 2023.
Perhaps. We'll never know but I guess hopefully being 1 year further out from the Covid induced revenue issues and 1 less year necessary in the buyout will let us play in a bigger sandbox next year.

The one thing that rang hollow to me - money/buyout didn’t matter in our decision making… and, we need your money donors! In the same breath, almost literally.

my takeaway from the buyout comment was that we can pay it if we want to because it's part of the deal. You don't enter into clauses like that if you can't act on them. That was my interpretation at least.

Next year’s schedule is murderer’s row. You don’t want to bring in a brand new staff and start things off with a 2-10 season. If we can get to 6 wins next year Dino should get extended, if we don’t, then he’s going to get canned anyway.

just mentioned delays in getting calls from the box to the field. said it was inefficient and needs to be better. He harped on it a bit and clearly not happy about it.

Tomcat also mentioned it today. It was a huge issue all season and led to a bunch of screwups. burned timeouts, delay of games, the 2 pt conversion etc.
Good this is the type of stuff I wanted called out!!! Game management is atrocious...

honestly every student should get a free season ticket. They showed up this year IMO.

I think fans should get a buy 1 get one free. They really need to think outside the box with football revenue coming off a horrendous year, retaining same coach.

I don't get why anyone has disdain for John Wildhack. He took every bullet and explained it away.
I mentioned this to someone at the box office (I think it was a survey?) about offering packages that include hotel/food discounts or something. Maybe even reduced ticket prices for younger children. Something that makes the trip easier for a family of 5. Some kinda partnership thing with local businesses. We’ve had times we’ve come up and people didn’t know there was a game that weekend. Cuse and the surrounding areas should be all Orange and buzzing on gameday/weekends!

I’m really not sure what people wanted out of this presser that JW didn’t handle

He called out many of the issues and stood by his coach. Everything he needed to do for this type of presser.

He basically told Dino, hire better assistants this time and make sure you bring some good players in through the portal

Wildhack was fine in the presser I think a lot of things he is saying are delusional but he answered everything without hesitation or backpedaling.

You think "...a lot of things he is saying are delusional..." but it was a fine press conference?

Did Wildhack say they have identified an OC with experience developing QB’s or was that the goal to find an OC with that skill set.

I thought he said that was their goal but the way it was worded it could go either way..

If they’ve identified someone…don’t be surprised to see Cutcliffe LOL

I'm not sure which ones the poster was alluding to that you quoted, but here's my take:

1) Recruiting for this year is not over. Need to hit finish strong, inclusive of using the portal.
2) Need support, both financially and otherwise, from alumni (specifically the guys that came through the program before).
3) Need to right the ship and get to a "13th game" next year regardless of schedule.
4) Special teams needs to be fixed / gameday needs to be tight.
5) Tony White and Schmidt applauded. Tony White has a lot of potential.

Overall, I think he has faith in Dino and sees potential with a few more pieces in the team to get to a bowl game. I think he is very clear that the stuff we can compete with the blue bloods on (specials, gameday ops, etc) has to be fixed without question.
I like this... Wish he had addressed the lack of information coming from the football program... Out of date 2 deeps, no access to preseason camp etc...

Yes, both things can be true. He can be good in the press conference even if I don't believe the message he is standing behind.

It was great. I’m not sure what some people were complaining about up above. Some just want to complain for the sake of complaining.

I'll reserve judgement until I see who the OC coordinator is and what other additions to the program they make (i.e. ST coach, recruiting, etc).

The OC decision is the most important one facing DFB. I did not know that Gilbert and Dino were at odds (thanks for the tidbit EuclidBred) but that tells you we opted for a bad personality fit to keep the offensive cult going. What'll it be this year - sacrifice everything to the cult, or taking a deep breath and changing direction, as we did with White? I fear that DFB is too deep in the O, invested personally and perhaps irrationally.

Bingo.

Not only is it Cutcliffe, but he’s enlisted the Manning boys to throw the kitchen sink at this thing! Arch has already verballed!!!

Can you imagine? LOL

John said that White and Schmidt were great hires and now we need to make 3 more great hires.

But we had an ACC leading rushing game. Apparently this is a reason to retain the head coach but fire the OC. I guess Dino was in charge of the running plays and Sterlin was in charge of the passing plays.

this is where we as outsiders don't really know the internal workings of the team. Running game and passing game coordinators are a thing. For all anyone knows, maybe Schimdt had a lot of the run game responsibilities? We did run more outside the guards this year then we ever have before. There was certainly a shift in the running game scheme.

Yep, there seemed to be a real "Bob Kraft loves Pats Defensive Coordinator Bill Belichick" type vibe to what JW was saying.

for sure, I think if next year starts poorly it could get very interesting or once Dino is no longer bowl eligible.

Who knows. I did gather that right now we have a definite staff of Dino and two others and waiting on the other assistants

Do we get a playbook next year?
