With Charlie Strong headed to Texas

Figured that Strong would wait until Muschamp totally craps out at Florida, which does not seem far off.

Excited to see Strong spend all his time recruiting Texas instead of goIng to Florida. Weird move on his part.

IF Strong is the Texas HC, I would guess that he still hits Miami/South Florida. And, I would think that was part of the attraction for Texas - Strong's ability to deliver elite Fla recruits.

Go to UT Pros and Cons.

Pros:
1. "The" college football program with its own network.
2. No state salary taxes. (5 million dollars)
3. Austin is a great city to live in and raise family
4. Recruiting for UT is close.
5. Great facilities.
6. Assistant coaching pay.
7. Closer to family in Arkansas.
8. Football state rather than a basketball state!
9. $$$$ on football camps!!

Cons:
1. Constant pressure from media and fans to succeed. No chance for time to build.
2. New AD will keep a close eye on the program.
3. Boosters will be constantly at his backing call.
4. Big12 conference?
5. No privacy being in Austin. You become an immediate celebrity or outcast depending on success.
6. Changing your childs' schools.
7. You will get 3 years to beat Oklahoma. If you don't then you will be done.

2. Pressure to succeed will be less.
3. Florida recruits to UL is easier in ACC now.
4. AD will give you more leeway.
5. You are still making 3.7 million plus more from camps.

Cons:
1. You are in a basketball first school and state.

3. Raising schools standards when they joined ACC.
4. Recruiting areas are not local.

Saturday @ 12:51pm: As of this moment, I'm saying he doesn't go.

That would be their top two choices saying no. The universe may implode! No one wants UT! :)

you have to remember one thing, most of the coaches have agents that are paid based on a percentage of the contracts so the pressure these guys must put on the coaches must be pretty heavy. If strong keeps turning down more money how does his agent reacts to losing money?

from what was just being reported strong was choice no.4

Saben,Mora and Briles were ahead of him with Saben at 10 million a year

You have to live in Texas with the idiot Governor and the idiot that follows.

If there was a WWE-style Royal Rumble with every pro or college football coach ever, would Charlie Strong be the odds-on favorite? The guy is just a tank.

Among other things I'm not so sure that Florida kids want to play in the Big 12.

Yeah, Austin is only one of the most desirable places in the country to live/retire. Saban has a house there precisely because its so awful.

Except for the idiot governor.

I think part of the reason UT wanted Strong because they want someone who can go outside of Texas and recruit. That was one of the problems they had with Mack. He would rarely go out of the state and fight for a kid. See Jameis Winston

As how it effects Syracuse...I went through the L'ville recruiting class last night and saw a few kids, but they would each be highly coveted. I doubt we get anyone from this whole shuffle. We have a lot of wiggle room to with our current class, hopefully we can shock someone

Far more successful than Mario's son. I just spent a week in the Dallas area...their economy is robust. I wish we could say the same.

Lots of robust areas in the country and they manage to do it without the draconian politics of Texas. If you are struggling in Texas they could care less. Bought and paid for by big money. Sad really, it used to have robust political debate. It will change again one day but it will still be as hot as hell in the summer.

Was Briles even considered? Semed more of a fit for UT imo

Briles was offered last Thursday and he told Texas "no thank you". Briles re-affirmed his commitment to Baylor yesterday. Briles also turned down the Redskins job.
