Can I be honest? I don't know the guy at all. Zero.
My only worry has nothing to do with him as a person. Again, don't know the guy. Glad he's helping upstate and all those charities. Seriously, all the better for the folks involved.
All I know is that in my life we've been hit with sanctions 2x. I worry about any *potential* attention we're getting that is high profile in terms of stuff that has to do with money being thrown around.
Tom Brady is not coming to watch a Cuse game for free. There is something given (charity, payment, whatever) that I am sure is 100% legal and above board. But it still is a "look at us" thing.
Starting a basketball academy? In theory, great. Fantastic. Our backyard. Can it be looked at as a workaround to get high profile recruits? Yep.
To me, this is NOT USC opening football practices to have Will Farrell and Snoop in attendance to watch (which, btw, they eventually got nailed for stuff from that time period).
Again, maybe I'm nervous for no reason and that's my own issue, but I'll be honest, any involvement with him constantly posting photos, constantly getting celebs to attend games that seem out of left field, a potential bball academy... all I keep thinking is this is inviting attention that we probably don't need.
Plus, it's not like our recruiting is at a high note, lately.
Again, all of this is just my own issue with it. Happy he's helping upstate and all the charity he does. Good on him. Honestly, I mean that.
If this is the case then it's Mike Hopkins and Washington that has more to worry about. See Isaiah Stewart.
As a local not really worried about Weitsman at all and tbh some of it comes off as typical CNY cynicism. Not saying that is you of course.
