Can I be honest? I don't know the guy at all. Zero.

My only worry has nothing to do with him as a person. Again, don't know the guy. Glad he's helping upstate and all those charities. Seriously, all the better for the folks involved.

All I know is that in my life we've been hit with sanctions 2x. I worry about any *potential* attention we're getting that is high profile in terms of stuff that has to do with money being thrown around.

Tom Brady is not coming to watch a Cuse game for free. There is something given (charity, payment, whatever) that I am sure is 100% legal and above board. But it still is a "look at us" thing.

Starting a basketball academy? In theory, great. Fantastic. Our backyard. Can it be looked at as a workaround to get high profile recruits? Yep.

To me, this is NOT USC opening football practices to have Will Farrell and Snoop in attendance to watch (which, btw, they eventually got nailed for stuff from that time period).

Again, maybe I'm nervous for no reason and that's my own issue, but I'll be honest, any involvement with him constantly posting photos, constantly getting celebs to attend games that seem out of left field, a potential bball academy... all I keep thinking is this is inviting attention that we probably don't need.

Plus, it's not like our recruiting is at a high note, lately.

Again, all of this is just my own issue with it. Happy he's helping upstate and all the charity he does. Good on him. Honestly, I mean that.

If this is the case then it's Mike Hopkins and Washington that has more to worry about. See Isaiah Stewart.

As a local not really worried about Weitsman at all and tbh some of it comes off as typical CNY cynicism. Not saying that is you of course.

nervous for no reason and it being your own issue sums it up

Someone paid Stewart? There are interviews with Stewart that articulated why he chose Hop, yes he chose Hop not Washington. I have a feeling many players would’ve that we’ve had in the past.

Not what I said. Weitsman was close with Stewart though and he ended up at Washington was my point.

Not sure how that has anything to do with how close he was to Hop.

I know he was, but if we ended up with Stewart and he was on a middle aged mans Instagram all the time people here would be concerned.

Not true. He went to his announcement ceremony but never met him,

Attention towards the program is fine as long as it’s above-board & beyond reproach- we all want that. Many schools have both corporate & individual sugar-daddies, ie; T Boone Pickens (Ok St), UMD ( Under Armour) so I feel the concerns of many & even share in some of them. And I’d hope we’re past the point of doing “dumb isht” that’ll put us in jeopardy. I’d hope everyone affiliated w/ the program has learned that lesson.
As for Weitsman i have no quarrel w/ his fanhood- heck, if i had his money I’d be that way too. God bless him.

What’s ironic is, while he received the award, he was down in Florida with Antonio Brown and Jake Paul at the UFC fight. His Instagram is pretty incredible to follow, with videos of Cormier threatening Jake Paul and Antonio Brown meeting up with Tom Brady after the fight. He definitely lives the life and I’m glad he puts a lot into our community.

BTW, that post isn't some humble-brag, I think he connected with me because I'm from the southern tier.
So I definitely get all of that. But what's the motivation for Tom Brady to leave his supermodel wife and family to come to Syracuse, NY in February? Does he also have an interest in Syracuse getting national exposure, or is there some other professional/charitable benefit to him?

Is Jake Paul someone you’d want to associate yourself with?

He’s done it so much now I think a big part is rich people hanging out with rich people. He’s worth a billion. So much for the excuse people can’t be successful from upstate NY.

that’s what was said

but Adam has a habit of saying he’s bringing these wonderful things to a town and then doesn’t...not taking away from him and what he does for attention to the program. But until you see Adam open a business, don’t ever plan on it coming.

Unless you've had personal dealings with him, this sounds kind of harsh to me. Guy seems to do a lot of good things to help people, including the program. Yes, a good chunk of that is PR for his own business(es). But I still lean toward giving people the benefit of the doubt.

I don’t think it was harsh at all. Just truthful.

As I said, Adam does a lot of good and that’s great

but if we talked about all the businesses that Adam was supposedly opening, there are more than one that simply never happened or got cancelled for one reason or another.

Sushi restaurant in Owego
2nd steel plant in Owego
Basketball Academy in Johnson City
Sports Bar in Binghamton

So I stand fully by what I said, if Adam says a business is coming, don’t fully believe that it is coming until work has actually started on it.

I think he comes up with great ideas for businesses but sometimes I think he states things that are coming too prematurely.

I guess I’m confused on how that’s harsh?
