Coach P Stepping Away from the NFL

I believe Matt Patricia and Pasqualoni are close, and I suspect Patricia didn't want P to be part of his staff purge.

P has had a helluva third act in the NFL, post SU and UConn.

P is well respected within the NFL circles. I could see him surfacing in New England if McDaniels/Judge purge the assistant ranks under Belichick. Belichick will be running things with Steve and Brian Belichick and may need the old war horse around like Scarnecchia. P is from the area so who knows..

I would 100% love to see that. He was ran out of town by gross and should have been given a bit of respect that he earned
Though people I respect insist he needed to go, I enjoyed the Pasqualoni era more than any since. 6-3 was a good bowl record when we haven’t been to that many bowl games since. I think it could be fun to have him back...giving Dino a lot of experience.

Patricia fired 6 assistants. He didn’t fire Coach P even though Patricia took over the play calling for the Lions defense the last half of the season.

Patricia did P a solid and let P retire rather it called a firing. It’s a classy gesture just like Jerry Jones is doing to Garrett.

Jerry jones is doing Garrett no favors. He is making the Cowboys look more ridiculous than they usually do. I wouldn't be surprised at this point if he brought him back. And that would be down right crazy.

Maybe he was driven out by gross but there is no denying the fan base was part of that, including many on here. He should be revered at SU, he was the best coach at SU ever except, maybe Ben S. And that is only because of the NC. Coach Mac was a better personality, but coach P won consistently for over 10 years.

P's better years at SU should always be respected and appreciated for what they were.

He's done solid work as a coordinator and position coach since and that's laudable as well.

He certainly has earned a break from the game and time with his family in his golden years.

Typically robot-like statement. LOL
Seriously, he had a super run for us, and he destroyed a program that could have been a true rival.
Kudos, twice earned. A terrific man. Our kids had a great graduation rate, and we were a hell of a team for a while there.

cantor ran him out of town.

Didn't Floyd have something to do with it, too? I recall a story about a box of bigwigs being so embarrassed at that 50 blowout in the bowl game, whichever one it was.

His time had passed, though.

I remember hearing that story. The writing was on the wall the minute that video camera turned and you saw gross with his arms crossed looking out at the field. The local media was beating the drum pretty hard also

Floyd can’t fire anyone. Cantor directed gross to fire him during the bowl game.

That's right. And Gross had just been hired, too, right?

This^^^^. P was/is a great guy. Good for him for hanging his whistle up and enjoying family now. Would love to watch a game with a guy like him having a beer and barbecue. Dude knows more football than all of us on this board put together. It also wasn’t just Cantor or Gross. A majority of fans were clamoring for change at that time and probably many of us here myself included. Oh well...older and wiser. P was a great part of some great teams and moments. Again good for him and his wife. She must be a saint for all the travel she did with him.
