Hip Hop thread

My early impression was they were about “shock value” and I’m just not typically into that, but I also have heard they’ve matured quite a bit in their content? Always heard good things about Earl and heard Tyler’s album was great last summer(I think). Not sure if I ever gave it an attentive listen. I should probably give them a chance.

I just considered it skater , and a host of them were always alluding to be gay, so you had that sort of uniqueness hitting in a lot of songs.

Did you like Yonkers when it hit? I feel like people either liked that song, and got used to Tyler, or hated it and never listened again. :)

I also found it amusing that Tyler would rap about killing Bruno Mars a lot...so random, and Bruno Mars sucks so it made me laugh.

Honestly I’m aware of the song “Yonkers”…but I really don’t remember it. I just never paid much attention to them. Until The Internet - Ego Death, but even that didn’t make me check out the rest of the crew.

Phife Dawg album is REALLY good. Beats are great, features are great, the whole thing is cohesive, song choices and concepts make sense. And it’s just great to hear Phife one more time. Well done and put together album. Had me choppin onions a few times too.

Yes it is!! Always loved Phife, he on point!!!

Post a completely obscure gem.

This is an early 00’s track. LEGACY….he had the bugged out punchlines(with the occasional cringe one but many more that hit), and the deep content, absurdly good flow and voice IMO, and could write great topical songs. And had a production team behind him who were unknown at the time but are now pretty big names who get big placements on albums all the time(9th Wonder and Khrysis did his entire first album).

The line between making it and not making it can be so thin. Nobody knows Leg. Damn shame.

Cappadonna doesn’t get the respect he deserves.

This isn’t an obscure gem for anyone that knows… but it should be a required spin for the next gen of hip hop heads.

Go to the 26:20 mark of this video and see where the Phonte/Phryme collabo began. Lol. Phonte - “can I get in on that?” Lol. Funniest thing is, there used to be another video on YouTube of this….Phonte was being interviewed and there was a mixup and Royce and Premier showed up in the middle of the interview thinking they were supposed to be interviewed….so they just all did this interview together.

A little too frenetic for my taste, but it's growing on me:
Always good to hear some new Pac.

This is on my Playlist at the office (my room) at least once a day not gonna lie...been a dolph fan for years. (No I don't trap at all)
Edit: rip dolph

Never listened to him a lot beyond a song here and there, but I really like this new Vince Staples album. This is my favorite, “When Sparks Fly”:

I like him - I think I posted one of these before, but Blue Suede, Pimp Hand, I have a bunch of regular songs that go on "workout" mixes from him from his early days

He's evolved a lot as an artist, definitely more of a straight west-coast sound early on.

So, kinda interesting to hear Kool G, Masta, Ghost on the same track....but more posting it because RA always sorta baffled me. Some people love that dude, but I just never really cared that much for him. He has pretty insane flow, incredibly complex rhymes, but I just hate how goofy he always gets, kinda like Eminem 73% of the time (at least from all the **** I've heard him do over the years)...
