Hip Hop thread

Been listening to every People Under the Stairs album on rotation all week. So underrated. Not amazing mc’s or anything, but Thes One might be one of the best producers of all time.

Thought this thread was a tribute to Jay Bilas cringe tweets

Happy to see my favorite group get some ink.

But what wasn’t touched on and what I think may be their biggest influence is - they made their first album in their friend’s apartment. With beats made on a computer. They were working with what they had. And they built their own buzz, largely on the internet. And though they had a stint on a major label for album #2 - they later went independent now they basically do everything themselves.

Making music in your own studio setup and putting it out yourself is a far more common practice now. 20 years ago if you weren’t on a label, and couldn’t get in a studio - you weren’t making it.

Nearly Twenty Years Later, Little Brother's 'The Listening' Continues To Shape Hip-Hop

Laying on the couch listening to the new Black Thought album, winding down before going to bed, and….

—- a thick skin I got Mia X-o-skeleton.

Got me a exoskeleton.

Got Mia X-o-skeleton.

Popped up off the couch like:

Confused face. He really came up with that? Hit rewind. Cmon!!! Thought is so good.

I don't really like JID - the voice, the sound, South, etc...but usually a pretty solid lyricist

I also do not like the voice or those types of beats.

I’m dead serious - give me 6 months and I think I could make beats that sound exactly like that. In that lane, they all make the same beat every time for like 8 years now!

Not that EVERY single thing from Atlanta is awful...but even in the documentaries about the history of hip-hop and how each region developed their own style it's always funny when they get to the South and it's just like...."and in Atlanta they just, uhhhhh, kinda loop everything endlessly," and somehow never tired of it to this very day.

I mean….I loooooove Dungeon Family - Outkast, Goodie Mob, Organized Noise. I put them with the best of the best.

I liked and had a lot of fun to some of the Luda and TI songs and verses back in my college days. Even like that Youngbloodz/Lil Jon - Damn. And Trillville - Neva Eva and Some Cut - those used to get things rocking in college and I’ll always appreciate that.

Beyond that……

And at some point all the young people in every city decided it was cool to dress the same and make the same kind of music.

Bring back regionalism.

I like the old school vibe of this song. The budget for the video couldn't have been more than $100, though. Edit: Can we also talk about WHY IS NOTED CUSE FAN JADAKISS WEARING A GEORGETOWN JERSEY???

It’s an Iverson jersey though - I assume the two are friends. I still remember that Reebok commercial they did together!

Just bought this Elzhi and Khrysis album on vinyl. Limited run. Glad to grab a copy.

Anyone into Oddisee? Washington DC rapper and producer. I was a big fan about 10 years ago when this “People Hear What They See” album was out. Gotta check out his more recent stuff because he kinda fell off my radar at some point.

So, I just came upon this tweet and I was at this show(last night), I’m briefly in this video….and based on looking at her profile picture, I’m pretty sure I stepped on this woman’s foot before profusely apologizing at some point in the show.

This was the beginning of Little Brother’s “Loving It”, and I wish I could find video of the whole song because I think the energy got even higher as the song went on. Seemed like the whole crowd was rapping all 3 verses. So much fun.

Just dropped in to say how much I despise hiphop.
That is all.
