NIL Discussion

Need a group of you Syracuse locals to get an NIL coordination/facilitation org going. Canvas the business bigwigs your networks, get the word out there - Win/Win: great advertising and PR for them, increased talent and on-court success for their favorite college basketball team.
Get it done.

It’ll happen. JW said in an interview a group is trying to get a collective going and he’s confident it’ll happen before the fall.

It’s crazy that Ruiz has 111 deals with Miami but we can’t or won’t get Weisman to do the same with us. Our compliance offices should trade notes or something.

Why is it compliance? If it was compliance JW wouldn’t openly be talking about a group that is forming a collective. Maybe Weitsman doesn’t want to be a Ruiz. Not everyone wants to just hand over millions of their own money.

This K-State writer made an insightful point that player unionization may be the only hope at regulating the Wild West or the NIL era, because the NCAA may be too afraid to act.

“This is the new world, ladies and gentlemen. Once the decisions — morally correct ones, by the way — were made to give athletes the freedom to profit from their own image as well as choose to transfer, the barn door was completely blown off its hinges. There is no meaningful regulatory prescription for this that doesn’t impinge on the athlete’s right to market themselves, and no meaningful way to prevent schools from using businesses as proxies to recruit.”

“The long and short of it is this: if the idea of competitive balance is that important, the only — only — solution is the unionization of athletes. That will allow for collective bargaining between the NCAA and the players in order to potentially restrain this Wild West chaos. Until then, buckle up and get used to the new paradigm.”
Exactly what I was thinking - unions will be next. The upset within teams bringing in what we used to call ‘ringers’ , renting players for a year or so, will only continue increasing since big $ are involved. Pandora’s box is just starting to open. All these actions and the resulting reactions are only beginning.

Could be true, just trying to figure out why Cuse as a school is so behind on NIL. Weisman said in the past he’s willing to help in recruiting battles but maybe JB/compliance is stopping him from helping financially or maybe he doesn’t want to dish out that much $$$. Maybe JW realizes how behind we are and is publicly saying something is happening to save his ass.

People can say things but there hasn’t been anything tangible yet.

If Miami can’t get NIL money to Wong then what market can? It seems like the NIL is only going to benefit SEC and blue bloods, this is turning into a disaster quickly.

Why do you think we are so far behind? Not every school is doing what this Ruiz is doing by paying for play. SU athletes have many many NIL deals. What they don’t have is the billionaires handing out millions. JW can’t just snap his fingers and make people hand over their money to players.

He’s getting it - he’s saying he wants and deserves more
Yeah, but for the kid even saying this is still ridiculous. This is turning into a one year fantasy league where the best players can go to the highest bidder.

I want these kids to get paid, but what we’re seeing now is bordering ridiculous.

Like Auerabach said, this is not NIL and should not be called NIL. It is now pay for play and pay for performance like Wong just admitted. He wants more because he was the leader of the team.

People can defend Wildhack all they want but every day that Syracuse is not announcing deals like this is another day that Syracuse falls behind. It's all about perception and right now the perception is that Syracuse is playing in the minor leagues and a lot of these other schools are playing in the Big Show.
I doubt Syracuse (and a bunch of other schools) will ever have deals like this.

Another impact of this is coaching, if a great coach loses players in $NIL$, especially this late in the game and has a bad year the following year how is it fair to the coach to be on a hot seat? Coaches are losing control over their roster, doesn’t seem fair.
