I used to hit the brakes and I’m not one that often sides with board speak.

But Thamel isn’t being objective. He takes shots. Tirico, McDonough, they know how to be objective. Pete is a woman scorned.

Other people say it about Dino because the first one to bring it up is a known alum just spitballing in an article. The Feldmans of the world jump on it because since he went to SU he must know something!

The smart ones know that Dino to the Maryland dumpster fire makes no sense. Their path in the B10 East is much worse than ours in the ACC Atlantic, and they draw worse crowds than we do on a more regular basis. He’s loaded up for next year, more big time jobs might open then. Somewhere that 75k people or more come out to watch the game.

When he wrote for the NYT he was very good. Since leaving he has become a click baiting hack. That has nothing to do with SU. The fact that he has been an SU hater for years makes it worse. If he really is mentoring Newhouse kids, I fear for the future of sports media.

Well aware what goes on. And Dino, nor his agent, would've turned down an extension worth $4 mil/yr earlier this season. I mean, if not, he needs new advisers.

You simply don't know that to be true and that is the whole point, I am sure Wildhack is working on it but as I have said 1000X it takes two to tango. Dino may not be buying what the University is selling and I am starting to believe this may be the case. A nomad is always a nomad IMO. Going to be tough to lock him down. Dino has a healthy ego and is very confident in his own abilities, he has bet on himself time and time and time again and will continue to do so. Not saying he will 100% leave but it is going to be very tough to keep him at Syracuse long term. It just is.

And again, IMO if he leaves don't get enamored with the system or those who have Dino ties. Go hire the best head coach out there with a good offensive system. Offensive minded head coach with a good track record. Please no more assistants with zero head coaching experience and no defensive meat heads. Hire a guy with the track record you want.

To suggest Dino for Maryland is 100% stupidity. It literally makes no sense. Syracuse can’t match a school like Texas A&M offering Jimbo Fisher what it did but their is nothing Maryland could offer we couldn’t match.
Dino isn’t stupid. He would be moving backwards in a rebuild and in a tougher division.

Maryland would take Greg Schiano right now if they could get him.

A football program with no real tradition.

A program that has been assigned to the same Big Ten division as Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State and has no chance of ever truly competing.

The Syracuse University Football job is a far better job than the MD job - better conference, better home field, better football tradition and a better team with better players.

Dino has turned it around perception wise in a big way but to say we're better than Maryland in 2018 is not accurate, national wise. All these jobs are middle class at end of day. My assumption is Dino will only jump to a upper echelon gig where he'll get paid and his gypsy assistants who follow him around. Those guys have families and if he can get each of them 400-600k at a school like USC he'll go. It's hard to keep the troops down. That's my biggest issue with SU paying up. The BoT is not gonna write blank checks for the secondary coach at SU. They may go to the extremes for Dino (and i even question that) but they will not break bank for the entire staff that puts the operation closer to red.

The school is making a huge push to become relevant again academically. That is the agenda for the BoT. the sports are important but not to the detriment of the academics

Not only does it stink, but they have a massive negative PR hole to climb out of.

On top of all of the other "cons" you mention.

Can't imagine that MD would be an attractive option right now for any established / up and coming coach. That doesn't mean that there wouldn't be coaches out there willing to take the plunge, gamble on themselves, cash in on a B1G opportunity, etc. But things might get a lot worse there before they get better.

It's actually refreshing in this day and age that the Newhouse grads are actually trying hard to be objective. If As a grad around his time on the hill, Pete was THE Best writer for the DO and i've heard, like Tomcat, that he continues to be a proud alumni and carry the water of Newhouse.

You’re comparing national perception of the two schools. That’s not what Dino is comparing. He’s comparing what he believes he’s building towards here (I think he’s got a finger on the pulse of the program) with a job that is basically a peer school (in financial duress amid a scandal.) If the reports about his relationship with Wildhack are true that trumps Maryland’s dumpster fire situation.

Money and fan support may be enough to lure him away. But it won’t be to there lol
