for one i am a huge syracuse fan -- i would be crushed if this turns out to be true-- i believe schwartz is and ass and his reporting is completely bias and is wrong but

1. that does not make me feel any better about this case
2. i have no idea if bernie is guilty-- very nervous he might be
3. the anger and energy towards espn is nuts at this point -- if he is proven innocent then different story
4. boeheim is an assclown for calling victims liars-- he put himself and program in harms way for no reason at all

I agree with first 3. I am ambivalent on 4. JB is a dead duck regardless if Fine is guilty.

The thing is that at this point most are not even doing this for Bernie, and few are even suggesting Bernie is outright innocent because we have zero evidence either way.

The reason people are getting riled is because this irresponsible, yellow journalism is causing our University to be unfairly dragged through the mud, and in the process a man who has never been charged with a crime has seen his name irreparably damaged.

Have u read the OTL fb page? 95% of posts there are from a journalistic perspective having nothing to do with declaring Bernie Fine as innocent

IF he is proven guilty no one will every remember the "yellow " journalism -- just like they wont remember boeheims comments if he is found innocent

I disagree with the last part. If this is proven untrue, Boeheim is going to look like a freakin God...the story will all be about how this guy took a stand for his friend when he didnt have to...

I hope it shakes out that way.

Exactly. At this point it's primarily about calling into question ESPN's journalistic integrity, and the censorship at hand whenever someone dares post something counter to the way they are skewing their reports.

This I don't get. If JB doesn't know anything negative about Bernie. If JB never tried to "cover" for Bernie. If all JB is doing is standing up for a friend and colleague of 50 years based on what he believes to be true. WHY is JB a "dead duck." I don't know if Bernie is guilty or not, but I don't believe JB knows anything (even Davis has acknowledged this) and I don't believe he participated in any kind of coverup. Personally, I'll be very pissed off if JB is thrown to the wolves for believing his friend. If JB is an innocent victim himself and Cantor crucifies him for his loyalty the university will never get a dime from me again.

I have nothing to say about your point #1, but I do on all the others:

2. I have fully supported Bernie from the jump and I am dead certain that this fifth investigation, like the four that preceded it, will once again end in his favor. I am hopeful that it will end in charges or at least a civil judgement against this foul pair of grifters.

3. I don't care about ESPN. Schwarz has failed abysmally in his journalistic duties, but I still prize ESPN and still think highly of many of their reporters (Katz, Bilas, Gottlieb, etc.). Yes, I very much like Doug Gottlieb.

4. If you paid any attention at all to the allegations, and had any sense of nuance, then you would understand that Boeheim had to call them liars. Davis implicated Boeheim of complicity when he claimed that JB had seen Davis on Bernie's hotel bed on road trips. Davis and Lang were building a story of complicity, if not overtly then of negligence, against JB and the program. That had to be shot down forcefully. JB had to either call them out for the filthy *cking liars that they are, or else he had to explain why he turned a blind eye all those years.

The only assclowns in this whole circus are those of you who are too afraid to call a spade a spade - the stories these guys are peddling are inconsistent both internally and with each other, and the weight of evidence is clearly on Bernie's side.

So we should operate under the assumption hes guilty even though the present facts dont indicate he is and let ESPN drag him through Hell?

If anyone thinks the WAY ESPN has covered this story hasn't made a difference, then you're not paying attention, IMO.
Sadly, criticizing ESPN for its slanted coverage tends to get interpreted as minimizing the victim's pain or blindly supporting Bernie Fine. Why can't those things be mutually exclusive?
I do believe the outcry by SU fans is starting to be heard- we didn't imagine the bias, others are seeing it as well.
Pointing that out doesn't make this situation or its eventual outcome, any more predictable or easier.

I disagree goodroc. If the same case was made about yourself, what would you say. that the media did a good job because it has't been proven that you are innocent yet. the media has an awesome responsibility not to make an accusation ithout a great deal of evidence. They didn't have it. ESPN themseleves didn't run basically the same story a half dozen years ago. Tis type of accusation is a life killer. Short of one of the two recanting, he will always be tarred with this charge. ESPN had a higher responsibility to make a charge like this. If Fine turns out to be guilty, they are off the hook for now. But what about the next time someone is accused with this limited amount of "evidence"? As for JB, he is entitled to his opinion. Unlike you and me, he knows all the parties involved. One person he has known for 50 years. I hope if i ever get in trouble, I have a friend as good as him. There are not that many out there.

If JB knew nothing (which I assume is true and I believe is true) yet Fine is guilty, the Admin at SU will throw him to the wolves. I assure you Cantor will do this, the media and public perception will be too much not to.

Besides the all out assault on OTL's fb page has yielded some of the funniest stuff ive ever read in my life. Literally you people are hysterical and i love that im part of this board!

The board would be losing it if we irrationally declared Fine innocent and sent threatening messages to ESPN or Schwarz. That's not what's happening. Many of us are simply fed up with the awful journalism that ESPN utilizes, and has for a while. This "story" Schwarz is pushing is beyond reproach. What's wrong with making that known?

Good to see you, Moqui...now tell us how you REALLY feel! ;)

If JB is an innocent victim himself and Cantor crucifies him for his loyalty the university will never get a dime from me again.

If the allegations prove true, he wouldn't get crucified for his loyalty to the university. He would get crucified for attacking the character of the victims. He flat out called them liars and said this isn't the first time they attempted to get money from Bernie. I'm glad he came out in defense of Bernie, but he better have been sure beyond a doubt to say what he did.

I'm in agreement with you goodroc. I think things have gone overboard almost to the point of Ped St fans. None of us do know all the details or what evidence their is. We started the free Bernie bandwagon once we saw the accusers in the interview. Yet, the way they behaved can be indicative of a number of things including drugs, alcohol, abuse by someone in the past or abuse by Bernie. But who knows? We don't but we immediately went for the jugular. As SU fans it hits closer to home and is tough to understand or believe what is going on, but we aren't acting much differently than ESPN. We are jumping to conclusions. I want this to all go away and I want Bernie to be shown not to be guilty of these accusations, but damn, I just don't know. The one thing I keep thinking about and trying to reconcile is that when this first broke, Cantor immediately put Bernie on leave. Did she do that because she did not want a PSU appearance? Or did she have enough evidence that it was warranted even if not proven completely true? She was comfortable with the 2005 SU investigation and findings by BSK. So what has changed in her mind to now suspend him other than Lang? Is she as guilty as everyone else at assuming? I don't think she is like that and believe she has enough concern to have done what she did. Won't mean Bernie is guilty but there is enough there from past investigations and new info to give people pause to re-look at it.

Lets hope these guys weren't abused as kids (that would be the biggest shame in all this) and that Bernie is found "innocent".

If the allegations turn out to be true, I expect Jimmy to tell Bernie he broke his heart and then send him fishing with Neri.

For me this comes down to syracuse basketaball more then the crime. These two are traitors to syracuse basketball. Sellout for money. I dispise their selfishness and traitorism to syracuse basketball.

This is one of those rare cases where bernie should be looked at and its sad the institution got included. If Bernie commits a crime alone then he commits it alone in front of nobody.

If anyone responds in disagreement I will just post this...
Then you don't know what its like to be a diehard fan of any sport. These two are not good people abused or not. Its like fighting for a house burglar who gets malested.

For some of us Syracuse basketball is like your house or houses you grew up and live in. Its all your history and everything you love.

So what do you call someone that claims you saw something and never did you see it? What do you call someone that says I have 4 witnesses that will verify this and not one of them does? What do you call someone that tells you they outright lied to get money form someone to get even with them? Do you possibly see a pattern here? Do you say "oh they are just a little mistaken and defaming my long life friend and ruining his reputation is not worth saying anything about? If so do not ever call yourself my friend. I do not want wishwashy cowards as friends.

There is a lot of evidence he is innocent. Do 3 investigations finding no truth to the accusations go as no evidence? Just how many investigations do you need? 5 maybe 10 , how about until these jerks give up slandering Bernie which won't happen with apologists saying we need facts? The biggest fact to date are 3 investigations showing no collaboration of the accusations. Repeated statements that are outright lies, including one statement by the accuser that he deliberately lied to get money. So many lies but geez "no facts"? And don't call the accusers victims either: by your own standards (poor as they are) they have been discredited numerous times already. So far the only victim has been Bernie from what appears to be a vendetta by a drug and alcohol abusing brother and half-brother.

As far as ESPN goes, read what their ombudsman wrote to them when they failed to lead the charge at PSU. Now fast forward one short week and we get this one-sided version so they can lead a charge. Would that they had done this to you or your family and we'd see just how graciously you would react. I will lead the charge to have you declared unequivocally guilty until proven innocent. Welcome to Russia!

May you get a little clarity and read the facts that are out there and have the courage that JB has.

I will change my stance if and when a legitimate fact showing Bernie to be guilty surfaces. Then I'll lead the charge to hang him myself. Until then....

Have to agree 100% with this, due mostly to the climate we find ourselves in since PSU broke.
