This is why you play Shrader…

83 rush 536 yards 7 TD
9 catch 175 yards 1 TD

Tucker has more offense than both QB combined
I know the announcers said he was our leading rusher and receiver last night. Was he also that for Albany? He is our lifeboat imo

We’re not beating Clemson no matter who plays QB. The key is to figure out how we beat 3 other ACC teams. I don’t know if Shrader can do that, but it’s possible he gives us a better chance to just run over 3 teams than DeVito does.
Clemson beat Georgia Tech (our only win last season) 14-8. With our defense and a Friday night Dome game I'd say we've got a puncher's chance, not a foregone conclusion that it's impossible to knock them off

Just hope they get to that game with only one L still

I'm not sure he can be that all season. That was a lot of touches last night.
He has 92 rush / catch in four games. 23 a game. He is our work horse. 23 is manageable. RBs used to carry 20+ times a game all the time. It's old school.

It's only really in the last 25 years have teams gone platoon at the position

22/37 (59.5%) 317 yards 1TD 1INT
30 Rush 97 yards 4 TDs

32/52 (61.5%) 388 yards 1TD 2 INT
21 Rush 90 yards 1TD

Neither guy is killing it through the air. Their stats are almost identical, granted Shrader has played less than TD, but not by much.

The difference is what happens when the pocket collapses or there are bad snaps. Shrader makes more positive plays so far out of chicken poop than TD showed over the last few years.
Totally agree. I think that is exactly what is all comes down to and fine with the decision. It’s picking the least worst option and it looks like it could be Shrader to me (at least for now).

Lol, you say that like 25 years is recent history. Oh how I wish it was .

He had fewer touches in previous games than last night. We were a one dimensional team last night. I can't see that continuing without at least spreading the carries more. Adams looked very good when he got in

The only thing I can think of is this; Dino sees these guys every day in practice and he has a better feel for them than we do. We get to see them once a week for a few minutes and we think we know everything. We do not.

I think he feels he needs to get to six wins somehow. He isn't worrying about winning the conference; he is worried about keeping his job. With this win he only needs to go 3-5 the rest of the way to get what passes for a bowl these days. Maybe he feels that with Devito he could possibly win more than 6 games but he could also lose most of the rest. With GS plus what he wants do do with his modified offense he thinks he can get to 6 wins. The ACC is weak enough that with a good D plus Sean Tucker, perhaps handing off, not getting sacked, etc. Dino sees a way forward. We won't win all of our games and the passing game may look like total crap at times but as long as he can get his bowl he may not care. That's all I've got.

What you saw in the 4th qtr IS how defenses will play CUSE the remainder of the year.
Liberty didn't have a player 4 yards off the LOS. Gilbert better find a passing game QUICK!
Tucker won't last another game like last night's.
How the D kept Liberty out of the endzone and generated that turnover(Liberty's FIRST)
took a lot of GUTS.

Just looked up some stats just to get an idea of how much worse Shrader is at passing the ball downfield than TD. So far this year TD is averaging 7.5 y/a and Shrader is averaging 8.6 y/a on a lower completion percentage. I was surprised by that. Maybe TD hasn't been all that good a pushing the ball downfield. Maybe we just perceive that as the case because he has a bunch of deep attempts that fall incomplete.

Shrader's passing yarfs (and his passing TD) are inflated by Tucker taking a screen pass to the house for 70 yarfs.

The Tucker screen pass skews Shrader's numbers.

Tucker won that game. No one else on offense
Are you serious? Sure, Tucker was the star and will be our best player all year, but please tell me you're not so blind that you couldn't see that the way the defense had to account for the possibility of Shrader keeping the ball opened up some more room for Tucker. And you had to see the plays where he broke a tackle or made a guy miss to keep us on schedule or pick up a first down.

I don’t think you read my second paragraph? Lol

Trust me. He’ll play.
I wonder if Dino considers using both qbs at same time too. Shrader is a weapon on the field period w his legs. He’s got that Tebow thrust on power runs. Not 1/8 Tebow but he can push forward

I hope they figure out a way to get them doing things together

Oh my bad. I should excuse every bad play he had because “the other guy was worse” the fact is without Tucker he loses. As it was we almost still lost because he doesn’t know what a completed pass over 10 yards is. You guys look at hero ball and get dungey in the eyes and overlook everything else. If you wanted to be honest with yourselves you would praise Tucker for saving us from subpar QB play
Team game.

Shrader cannot stretch the D vertically but he can horizontally. The quick throws to the WRs and the short passes he can execute well. He can avoid sacks and keep plays alive. He can keep us out of 3rd and long. He can be an RJ or Hunt like runner. I would love to see UNC Tommy every game but we haven't seen it since.
Bingo we have a winner. Spot on. The idea is to open up the lanes for tucker. It doesn't matter if its vertical or horizontal. Because Shrader is a true threat to run as long as he can hit the horizontal and mid range throws we can move the ball.

Lost in all of this is Taj Harris. With the QB change, his catches and opportunities diminished considerably. I hope he can keep his head on and keep working for the team.
I think we will use Taj more like we did vs Ohio. He isn’t good down the field, he his a YAC guy. So screens and quick passes in the slot over the middle. Extended runs. I think he will easily get a half dozen of these a game.

If teams play 9 in the box he is one missed tackle away from turning a 3 yard pass into a 60 yard gain.
