This just in - marrone is still an imbecile**

extending the game is stupid

trying to win the game is smart

Doug Marrone has seven wins with three to go, so he has had a measure of success, right?

he's three for three on defensive coordinators. in the end, he'll be 14-18 after two years. they have an owner with deep pockets now, who knows. i think pegula gives him next year based on him taking over the sabres mid season and waiting until the next year to clean house

With 3 games left, i'd be shocked if Marrone was fired after this year. These last 3 games however could get him fired or perhaps solidify him for the long term. (As long term as an NFL coach can be)

whaley's gotta go. he made a big bet on watkins putting them over the top, it was a bad bet, he's gotta pay for it

Eh, I like Whaley. Watkins is a beast and I still believe will be the best WR out of this year's outstanding crop of rookie WR's. Giving up the extra 1st is rough but it's going to be a mid-late round pick anyway. Unless you really want Winston or Mariota it is what it is.

In his past draft classes he's had some misses but hit on Kiko and Woods and while Watkins is debatable with what he gave up and Koundijo is a miss so far, he hit on Preston Brown and Seantrel Henderson. He also turned Kelvin Sheppard into Jerry Hughes.

I'm absolutely willing to give him more time, especially with an owner who is willing to spend to the cap.

He knows what he's doing - he has real gravitas.

I know how you love to tweak all of us by calling him everybody else stupid, but this guy is the real deal.

And you should be very happy that he's there.

I don't think he's going anywhere. I suspect that Pegula knows exactly what he has and will keep him for a long time.

lindy ruff is way better at his job than marrone is and pegula got rid of him in less than 2 years after taking over. loved former sabre, national team assistant, 1 cup appearance, 3 conference finals, nhl coach of the year. there's no comparison and that's not an insult to marrone

marrone will probably get a full year under the pegulas just like ruff did, pegula became owner team mid season so that means marrone gets next year.

unless kim pegula is more impulsive, she's more involved with the football team, she's more front and center with the bills than the sabres.

From what I read, it sounds like Kim will be involved with Bills as far as marketing and game day experience and things like that. But Terry will be involved in the football decisions. But you guys have probably read more about it than I have being local.

How was Lindy Ruff doing at the time he was fired?

Really hard to compare hockey to NFL Football.

Marrone is really good at picking defensive coordinators. And he should get credit for that. Throw in his punting tendencies, and maybe he's really a defensive coach at heart?

Ruff has the 9th most wins ever. they're different sports but come on, he's in really good company.

he had a winning record, missed the playoffs, started 6-10 the next year, got canned.

after that they really started sucking to the point where they scrapped everything and decided to tank on purpose for 2 years.

pegula bought a bunch of expensive free agents right off the bat and got rid of the coach pretty quick for not making the playoffs.

Hockey coaches seem pretty fungible - at least from what I have seen.

Since I have been in Philadelphia - since 1984 - there have been 13 head coaches for the Flyers.

During that same time period there have been 6 head coaches for the Eagles.

There is much more movement with hockey coaches than with football coaches and I suspect that is because in hockey it's probably more about motivation and player interaction than schemes.

So, comparing Marrone's situation to that of Ruff is probably not all that analogous.

it's pretty analagous when the same guy owns both teams and was willing to fire the 2nd longest tenured active coach in any major sport over not making the playoffs.

Obviously I don't know much about Pegula.

But you don't fire a coach six games into the season for no reason or because there is a new owner.

And firing a hockey coach is pretty meaningless - they are a dime a dozen.

That is not the case with an NFL football coach.

From my perspective, Marrone is a big time coach who is not going anywhere.

But, who knows, you might be right - time will tell.
