Who’s it gonna be guys and gals?

It needs to be corrected or he will never reach his full potential. Thats what the staff is working on.
That's where I'm at. I expect Tommy and staff to have been working on this, non stop. Like every player, they work on improving any area that needs it, all off season.

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt, until I see otherwise. I dont know the work he's put in. Players improve. If the line can finally play at an ACC level? That can only facilitate any of the work he's put in.

Good points. That’s a positive outlook. Some times fans can have a fixed mindset.

Let the best man win. I will laugh at anyone thinking Tommy will be drafted though. He would have to have an absolutely dominant season and be tops in many many categories to even be considered IMO.

LOL Tommy will not be drafted unless something dramatic changes. You are 100%

like I’ve said 100 times. Tommy is great I practice and his “stats” are decent.

but that doesn’t mean he posses the feel and the touch for the game. That’s where Tommy is lacking. The problem with that is, it’s simply not something you can teach.

i cant imagine even the DeVito's are thinking he will drafted at this point.

thats got to be pretty good motivation...

What concerns me about DeVito is that there have been times when he had happy feet in games when the OL was performing well. I get the argument that it could have been some PTSD from games when the OL was garbage, but, fair or not, he’s got be able to shake that off and hang in the pocket.

I can count on one hand the number of seasons over the past 30 years where SU had a great OL. Our best QBs are the ones that overcome our usual OL mediocrity. If DeVito can’t then he won’t ever be a good SU QB.
Yeah, he seems to start games comfortable and looks good until he gets tagged.

After that it unravels.

I still hold out hope though. If he can settle in and not have a single hit feel like the accumulated pounding he's had and all the bad psychic energy that brings I think he could put up insane numbers and lead us to a bowl.

I want to go back to being worried about TD being TO prone and not hesitant to make a play. He fixed the TO issue so we can hope the other issues can be fixed.

2018 UNC in regulation he was 8-14 with 1 INT and 1 dropped INT
2018 ND he had 2 INTs
2018 NC State he didn't turn it over in limited action
2019 Liberty he had 2 INTs
2019 MD he had an INT and a fumble
2019 Clemson he had an INT

So that was basically a 5 game stretch where he turned it over 8 times and was lucky it wasn't 9. Since then he has 3 INTs over basically 12 games (2019 Wake he barely played).

Schrader is starting against Ohio. Tommy is one play away, and ready if GS struggles.

That's the bet I'm making.

I'm not responding to this to say I disagree 100%...but I do think you can teach what he's lacking. There are a lot of guys who lack "feel and touch for the game" but still are really productive in college. You simplify decision making. You practice broken plays. You speed things up in camp. The things that can't be fixed are physical (fast enough, tall enough, etc). And you have limited time - he may not get there based on the work he has to do to develop some of these things is running out.

I also think too, when plays break down, we don't really have WRs that seize the moment and get open. Lots of standing around or continuing a covered route.

As much as DeVito doesn't seem like a backyard QB, I don't think our WRs are backyard guys either.

It will be interesting to see Terrence Samuels's impact on WR development.

I agree but apparently a few think he will which was stated in this thread recently.

He doesn’t turn the ball over because he does not try to let his receiver make the play.
one of the reasons I think he is holding on to the ball to long. He seems to be waiting until the wr is completely open.

Our Wr’s made scrabble plays down the field in previous years in the system. There’s a disconnect with TD. You can put some of blame on the wr’s but its really on the QB. It’s his job to be on the same page. They have to believe he can get the ball to them in those situations. Im sure they think he’s going to tuck and run like he normally do. Doesn’t keep his eyes down field. It’s natural for any wr to try it get open. You learn that in little league.

Perhaps, but at least we can always count on Taj to glare and yell when the ball doesn't come his way in those situations! ;)

Yeah I agree they made those plays in previous years. But those were also different players. Maybe it is all grounded in TD. I just find it hard to believe with how many guys in the WR rotation that there's not one of them that even if they're not believers that TD will toss it to them when things break down that their natural instinct doesn't take over and they scramble to get open.

I don't know, our WR unit doesn't seem to have that guy that treats the ball like a one man cold. Only one man catching it, only one man coming down with it.

Bonus points to anyone that gets the movie reference.

I get your points. I guess I’m just more in disbelief that Wr’s can’t naturally come back for the ball when the QB is in duress. It’s such a natural thing to do. Get open, run away from the defender. Every team works on scramble drills. We do it at the Hs level. That’s why I tend to put it more on TD. He doesn’t see the field when he has to move around. Rarely attempts to throw a pass. I just want him to throw it sometimes. Make the wr make a play. Even if he over throws or short arm it. We might get a PA call.

Yeah it's puzzling all around.
