Whos our next head coach

Joe presented at a couple of clinics I went to over the years. Loved listening to him as the offense he ran was similar to ours.
There was an article somewhere where he mentioned taking a lot of stuff from Dino.

Maybe - but the stuff he presented had more traditional foundations.

I mean If it’s from the Baylor school of thought, there’s not a ton of intricacy. Send 3 or 4 on verts and pick the one on one you like with least amount of over the top support. Get them on their heels and run the rock to space.

5-7 should get him canned to.

Whoever we hire needs to be a proven recruiter at the power 5 level (with East coast ties) or be Doug Marrone.

Simple as that.
I am not interested in having this program start from scratch right now. The only way I support Dino firing is if he fails to win 5 games. If they fire him, then they need to bring in a big name and a proven recruiter (as you mention), like the Brent Venibles, Bill O'brian types, or Dougie who has won here.
I don't know if any of this is even feasible to be honest, but that is the type I am thinking and they will need to pony up some $$. If they go with another MAC coach who is having a hot year, then we will be having this discussion in another 6 years as we continue to be bottom dwellers of the ACC.

I don’t want to start over either but after 6 years the trains off the rails and I don’t want to waste another moment. We’re dangerously close to complacency

I could be way off, but I think there is more complexity in DB's system. My limited understanding is the X,Y, Z receivers sometimes have as many as 3 way break options (depending on the alignment and read of the defender pre snap, whether they are outside vs inside receiver, stacked, and vs zone, man, cloud coverages) and 2-3 way options routes depending on how the defenders react post snap and/or who was identified as the leveraged WR on pre-snap reads. The explosive play opportunities often come from the option routes if everyone is on the same page. The option routes are what DB is reluctant to simplify, but it sounds like this is the consideration.

lmao these posts are hilarious. I worked for this University. I've been in the AD. They are not paying Dino Babers for 3 years to NOT coach. I would be absolutely STUNNED if Dino is not on the sideline in 2022

If we aren’t capable of firing Dino if we suck this year because of finances then Wildhack should be gone.
We would be conceding results don’t matter and we are cheap.

I think 3-4 wins and no firing is definitely complacency but the buyout would still be a consideration and I am not going to throw an adult temper tantrum over it. I am starting to lean that the job isn't every desirable ( probably worst P5 other than Kansas) and then if you try to go cheap will we will be here in another 4 years posting same threads. Hell I am on year 18 or 19 of posts like these, and that is why I won't be very enthused about a coach until we actually win games consistently and even after that who knew Dino would tank after 18.

I would like to see the next hire understand exactly what they are getting into prior to accepting the offer, which is just how tough it is to be successful at Syracuse. Prior stop here or a true Northeast guy that knows the landscape. Hackett or Moorhead type

Fun times

I think there are a few others that would be considered worse than Syracuse. Vandy for sure. Prior to Coach P firing Syracuse historically had a good program. Heck in the 90’s they had the 16th best winning percentage in all of NCAAF.

I found an article from 2017 ranking the top 100 programs of all time and ‘Cuse was 41. That’s not bad considering how bad it’s been since Coach P.

I see Pitt, BC and Rutgers recruiting better and/or making Bowl games and I ask, what are they doing that Syracuse cannot? What is the biggest obstacle?

Pitt and RU are located in talent rich areas. If anything they are pretty big under-achievers. BC draws from Catholic HSs. We aren't producing AAs and depth guys in and around the 315 in good numbers like the past. Just that simple, IMO.

I've been here as long as IthacaBarrel and see his point.

Million dollar question right there. All 3 have some recruiting advantages, Pitt/ Rutgers due to location. BC because of their tie in with catholic/ jesuit high schools but we should be able to compete for the most part with these schools I would agree

Assuming it wont be Doug (imo proven and ideal though conjecture is he doesn’t like recruiting/alumni relations)…

I’d be ok with Moorhead. Im not on the BOB or Rich Rod train. If Leipold gets Kansas above 5 wins and we can poach (unlikely due to nagging buyout costs).

It’s a garbage year on the carousel. We aren’t getting Fickel or anyone of his kind.

I just want a proven recruiter with Northeastern ties but I’m still looking myself personally

Doug Marrone. I don’t even care that it’ll cause crocodile tears on this board. I’m from Ohio, and when LeBron came back I was happy as hell. You’ll all deal with it.
I highly doubt he would come back but I would welcome him cause he's definitely cooled off. Also there is always that thought that he would bounce again so there is that

Chuck Martin is the only G5 guy that I find intriguing.

If we go that route than I’d rather pursue Leipold. Better track record at an instate school

FWIW Pasqualoni went into those catholic HSs and grabbed the likes of a Rob Konrad (St John's Prep).

Not sure we ever did fantastic in those spots. We did have local recruiters who could really find Diamonds (Ferri) in the rough in the Everetts, Brocktons of the world.

That's why if we can't land a Doug Marrone redux, I'd love for Syracuse to find a northeastern guy to take over. It worked with Mac, it worked with Pasqualoni. Haven't done it since. Marrone was a guy from the Bronx, that's the closest.

EDIT: Had he been younger, Don Brown wouldn't be a bad call.

I think 25-30% of BC's roster is made up of these kids maybe more I did look this summer but cant remember. 25-30 kids I think that's fairly significant

Yeah they'll get some. Marrone got that kid from Holy Cross at NT that everyone else missed on, but that's not a recipe for success. Unless we can turn back the clock, the area just doesn't support a lot of high level football talent. Who was the last P5 QB outta the 315?
