Whos our next head coach

FWIW Pasqualoni went into those catholic HSs and grabbed the likes of a Rob Konrad (St John's Prep).

Not sure we ever did fantastic in those spots. We did have local recruiters who could really find Diamonds (Ferri) in the rough in the Everetts, Brocktons of the world.

That's why if we can't land a Doug Marrone redux, I'd love for Syracuse to find a northeastern guy to take over. It worked with Mac, it worked with Pasqualoni. Haven't done it since. Marrone was a guy from the Bronx, that's the closest.

EDIT: Had he been younger, Don Brown wouldn't be a bad call.
Sadly there aren't many Northeast guys out there. Moorhead fits. Then who? Even at the assistant level like Hafley was, I cannot think of a guy.

Outside the box you can go for a guy like Nick Charlton and hope he is the next Chip Kelly but that is a bit of a risk. I wouldn't be surprised if he replaces Hafley in a few years at BC. If Mark Ferrante does well this year you could consider him too.

I am not interested in having this program start from scratch right now. The only way I support Dino firing is if he fails to win 5 games.

We’re starting from scratch now essentially. There is no benefit to keeping DB IMO. What do you gain by keeping him. Our recruiting is always picked close to the bottom of the ACC and our record supports that. Our OL seems better than last year but still not great in comparison to our peers. And our offensive coaching staff is operating dangerously close to game planning from the mcfunkit school of in game adjustments.

I don’t see how a rebuild puts us in any different situation than we already are. DB is in year 6 and trending down. A new coach comes in and we lose maybe a year or two of momentum we had with recruits we may want to keep. But we gain (the goal anyway) a coach that can develop talent, make in game adjustments, have control of the team, and has a system that works. A rebuild happens with the intent of improving. Right now we are not improving. I don’t think a rebuild is as bad as people are thinking. It’s not ideal but we can’t keep this going for 2-3 more years.

Dazzle me or give me the Hoffman man. Is pornstache still alive? I saw a Rich Rod thrown out there too, that's not a bad idea actually. He runs the type of dual-threat QB option offense that could be very successful in the dome and we just moved to a version of the 3-3-5 so defense wouldn't need much adjustment time.

Is there a common theme here? Yeah there is, those up and comer's are garbage. They hit gold at one school and fold. I'm thinking the Strong's, Frost's, Skip Holtz, etc. No thank you.

I don't think limiting a search to NE background is a good idea. Look at Nick Monroe-I don't believe he had much, if any NE experience, but he's just a good recruiter. Besides, you can always hire NE assistants with good contacts.

He is at Kansas. I would agree if he were still at UB.
I know, but imo Kansas is far worse off than us.

He’s another guy with considerable lower level (amazing) success before hired at UB. He put on a more than respectable gig at UB and may jump at an opportunity more attractive than Kansas. Thats just my thought/hope obviously

It takes years to get those contacts up and running for an outsider. There is plenty of hidden talent in Mass, Conn, NY, NJ, Eastern PA that at the very least can add quality depth here. You might need to develop those kids more but there are around.

We would need to buy out Babers, maybe buy out Kansas depending on his contract, and then pay Leipold like $4M a year. That is a lot of money.

That's true but history tells us that you build the trenches in the Hockomock League, ISL, and other local conferences that are totally overlooked on national recruiting services. Monroe has been great with the Florida guys and we need that for sure.

Look, P had Orgeron for a few years and he pulled a ton of talent out of the south. It takes a village. That village needs a connection to the northeast corridor. Not saying Dino hasn't done this just saying there is a better formula to do it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hafley is gonzo at BC inside of 3 years. Jurkovic going down may have slowed things down but he's gonna end up at a Michigan, USC type program because he seems to be a guy on a real upward trajectory

yeah no way that is happening. it's a shame, Leipold would have been the perfect replacement if Dino does indeed get fired after this season. Moorhead would be great, but if Franklin goes to USC then Moorhead may end up as PSU or maybe he gets offered the Nebraska gig if/when Frost gets canned. The SU job is one of the worst in the P5, it will not be an easy sell. We certainly can get a good coach, don't get me wrong, it just won't be easy.

Moorhead being fired at Miss State would be a hard sell even at PSU where he was before.

I don't know, it was just such a bad fit for Moorhead down there. I hope you are right however. may be moot, Fickel seems to be the guy for USC, his old AD at Cincy is now the USC AD and ADs are all about the comfort hire

It's very unlikely any of that will happen, most especially the last 2 things on the list.

I am comfortable enough to say I have no idea who we should hire or what type of coach he should be.
One thing is sticking in my head though ... and that might be to find a retread type of coach, a lifer type that can really teach and know how to run a program. This guy won't be young and he won't be a hot name. Someone almost like a Frank Solich type.

I can't think of someone who even fits that. Maybe Herman does but he isn't coming here.

Just popping in to say Hafley hasn’t done a thing at BC to warrant any speculation aside from being a good interview

I agree, let him string a few 8-4 9-3 seasons together before we crown his arse ( RIP DG)

Now that he lost his QB as well.

Maybe not, but he is more than just "a good interview." Hafley has the highest ranked recruiting class ever at BC. That's a great place to start.

"If you pay attention as a coach, you can see they’re doing some really smart stuff. Schematically they’re night and day better with this staff than the previous one, especially on defense. They’re recruiting the entire country right now, and pushing hard in private and Catholic schools." Anonymous ACC coach

Their defense was in the bottom half of the conference last season on their way to a 6 win season. This year they gave up 4 TD to UMASS.

I’m not saying he won’t be good. Just there’s been a rush to crown him and I don’t see a lot backing it up yet.

He's dynamic and is in demand. I think you can argue the same thing about Dino in 2017 but Hafley is like much further along than Dino was.

I would be shocked if he isn't coaching a major program shortly.

I hear you. That's reasonable. My response was only specific to your take about being little more than a "good interview" at this point. There are some reasons behind the belief that he might be a fast riser. Whether or not that trend continues remains to be seen. Lots of ground and nuance between that belief and a "rush to crown him."

I keep seeing this repeatedly. How is Monroe a “good” recruiter? We keep ranking last or next to last, year after year, in the ACC

That’s very fair. He’s doing ok and recruiting is definitely up. It will be interesting to watch what happens for sure.

The best kids on the roster were recruited by him including our most recent NFL drafted players.

I would be all in on White if we need to save money. He reminds me of the Arkansas coach. I love his personality and the kids are very well coached. Bring in a solid OC and ill bet my bottom dollar we are a better program.
