Wildhack Presser 10 AM Monday

let me know when Syracuse becomes a Tesla. We aren't even a prius yet.

The DeLeone freeze option was a b*tchin camaro for its time. Chicks digged it
You pull up with your Camaro while everyone else at least has USB ports and an effecient modern engine and you’ll be driving home with your aunt Edna

. It doesn’t tell me anything about expectations, aside from our fans like to compare us to top tier SEC schools
Aside from a few nuts on this board, I don't know a single SU fan who has that kind of expectation for the program (SEC-like). All my SU buddies just want us to be a perpetual bowl team (meaning, 6 win floor) who occasionally pops an 8-9+ win season. Basically, what Pitt and BC have done for much of the past 2 decades, while we've been awful. I don't think its unreasonable.

No, I get it. What I’m saying is *when* were they complaining and when are they saying he should have been fired?

SEC would have after 2019? 2020?

This is the first year I could see a reasonable case to be made. I would not have been surprised or that upset, *this year*

Cunningham may go, Armstrong is also high on draft boards , I haven’t heard where he is leaning.
UConn and Wagner have a lot of uncertainty/bad options at QB.
Pitt's best option at QB appears to be Nick Patti.

If we're lucky, Aidan O'Connell at Purdue doesn't come back. He had a great season, especially the second half.
Same thing with Hartman at WK and Armstrong at UVA. Graduate, dammit.

Jack Coan doesn't have any eligiblity left so SU will probably face a youngster - Taylor Buchner or Drew Pyne.

I think Cunningham might come back for more. He had a great season but he could do better, especially with all their young WRs.

Then there's Devin Leary, Phil Jurkovec, Jordan Travis, and probably DJ Uiagalelei.
It's hard to overlook the excellent QBs but there's a decent chance that SU will be facing a lot of inexperienced QBs next season.

I'm not sure if it's been discussed, but one really interesting thing to me from Wildhack was the reference he made to the change in offensive strategy. It was apparent but hadn't heard it specifically mentioned before...

OK, I gotcha now. And I agree.

You have to scheme based on the skill sets of your players. The alternative is to recruit different players, but that takes a lot more time.
Of course. But Dino’s first offensive staff did a much better job with fewer of “their” players.

That’s why I lean toward poor teaching/scheme implementation rather than huge drop off in talent quality.

I don’t think we’ve had a huge drop off in talent quality. But I do think we’ve been running close to the edge in experienced depth at critical positions.

I think depth is our kryptonite , put a fairly talented team on the field to start season but the wear and tear seems to knock us down late in year.

I agree.

My earlier point was that the scheme has proven effective and the only significant change (assuming talent level was largely similar) was the coach responsible for implementing and calling it.

I’m hoping a better teacher/play caller will show improvement closer to Dino’s first few years when - some of our QBs were clearly more effective in the passing game than they had been under Shafer.

On local radio right now. The way he answered the ST coach question I’m pretty sure Dino is hiring one

Glad to see. STs were a mess this year. It seemed like we had a ton of STs penalties. We were tied for 113th in 20+ PRs conceded. 105 teams blocked a K or P this year, we did neither. Only using FBS games we were 78th in KR coverage and 82nd in PR coverage. We had both a K and P blocked this year.

At the very least we need to be middling but we should strive to have the best STs. We can achieve that.

Anyone know how UConn's STs were? Their STC has a good background.

I will say, we better damn well hire an OC that has a system that can be easily and quickly installed to get results this coming season. If I hear one comment from Dino, or anyone for that matter, that it's "going to take time" to get the new offense rolling, or that "we can't expect immediate results", then I'm docking them 50 Internet points and fining them 100 Schrute Bucks.
Actually I want an OC who can take our current system and work within it to make it work and make it better. That to me is the best option. Build on what we have. Also someone who can work with Shrader and the receivers to teach better routes and better tips on passing and catching the ball.

I thought ADJW was pretty clear he was looking at Football Alums to step up when the donation plate is being passed around for quality coaches.

I think Clemson goes portal shopping

I couldn't tell you what our current system is. I don't think what we ran with Shrader as starter was a system so much as it was "plays we can run with a QB who can't throw, an OL that can't pass block, and WRs that can't catch".

Do they make the decision to fire all the heads of departments, do they close down businesses that aren't profitable, no, that comes thru the CEO. They carry out his directives.
OK. This conversation is irrelevant as Wildhack was NOT just a VP...Can we focus on the real issues?

The only thing that bothered me in the press conference was the figurative setting-up of a GoFundMe page to help in recruiting. That had the whiff of desperation to me...

Where did you hear that? I heard him say in regards to recruiting is wanting the support of alumni. If he was begging for money he’d have said donors. I think it’s more likely that he meant football alumni specifically and was talking about their support in identifying kids they know, talking to recruits when they can, if they’re coaching a HS team (several do) steer kids to SU etc. Hiring a few more recruiting staff and expanding their efforts isn’t going to take some kind of fundraising effort.

Should have had one in 2021. One of the most head scratching decisions in a long list of head scratching decisions.

Who doesn’t have a ST coach?!?

Every special teams unit has a coach.
