Wildhack Presser 10 AM Monday

Babers has taken the football program Dark since he arrived. Basically closed off everything to the public. This was mistake and helped kill any vibe and buzz around the program in our community, especially in the offseason when families are making kitchen table decisions about where to spend their disposable income.. It sure did not assist putting fans in the seats. You cannot turn around and howl about revenue and filling seats while at the same time not attempt to reach out. This is by far the worst public relations i have witnessed in decades of support. I am glad this is being addressed by others as well on this board.

Where did you hear that? I heard him say in regards to recruiting is wanting the support of alumni. If he was begging for money he’d have said donors. I think it’s more likely that he meant football alumni specifically and was talking about their support in identifying kids they know, talking to recruits when they can, if they’re coaching a HS team (several do) steer kids to SU etc. Hiring a few more recruiting staff and expanding their efforts isn’t going to take some kind of fundraising effort.
It was right after he talked about holding a bake sale.

And a lot of our alums are working training hs kids, and also college kids during break (portal, hello?). We have at least 2 here in AZ that I know of personally who do this. We need to build on our former players.

Also as to donating? It may not have been the best time to bring it up, but tomorrow is giving Tuesday, so it may have been a "get ready" the phone calls are coming your way.

And as far as tin cup donating? I am a HUGE proponent of that. Many feel that their donations are not important enough. ALL donations are important. Any amount. If someone can only give $5, then the $5 is important, because one day when life is going good that $5 is $50 and $500 and so on. Also small donations help us in college rankings in places like US News and World report. I was just having this conversation with someone who went to Northwestern and Harvard Law, and she said they have been a big fan of the $5 donation for years. They add up and teach the habit of giving to a particular institution.

A 4 star Ohio st QB did also. Think we recruited him too.

Any word of an end of the year presser from Dino? Maybe he will take questions when the new OC is introduced.

Agree - also, it may hurt NIL opportunities and player retention.

Buh Bye
This program has 1 winning season in the last 8 years. I can't imagine getting a winning season next year with a new OC and a bear of a schedule. That's 1 in 9 years. If you change coaches then and it takes the new coach 3 seasons to get to a winning season in his 3rd year, that would be 1 winning season in 11 years. If that prospect doesn't make people who have a deep commitment to Syracuse football feel deeply sad, borderline unhinged, then they really don't care about Syracuse football.

Are you telling me I didn't hear what I heard? He specifically referenced expanding recruiting efforts with donations necessary to fund the effort.

I thought you said you were only posting on the Basketball side now.

I didn’t hear that at all and I listened twice. Maybe I missed it? Do you remember where he specifically said that?

It was towards the end of the PC, and it was in response to a question. All I can tell you is that it struck me odd that he would say it, which is why I mentioned it. I listened live, and pretty intently. Always possible I misconstrued, but it definitely left an impression.

well the back channel guys may want him to plead b/c they are capped out. It doesn't look good we're resorting to public pleas but 25 years of crappy football has crippled the booster base. I actually don't think it helped that Cantor made the school super non selective.

The school is feeling the impact of trying to do the right thing and realizing they admitted a generation of non boosters potentially.
(This isn’t a debate, just a thought)

“Crippled” is an interesting word. I don’t think boosters are crippled. There’s lots of capital available these days looking for a destination. They’re just not seeing the same upside for their money. That the value is being lost on them and that they’re not clearly showing the trust in the powers to turn things around is scary.

Overall, I actually liked Wildhack's "tone".
It would be "helpful" to know who is out recruiting and who isn't.
It's 13 games...or adios for Dino Babers.

I found it. And while I completely understand your interpretation of it, I’m still not sure. He may not be talking about financial support of football alumni. Why would he specific football alumni for financial support? I think he’s talking about SU from a financial and hiring staff standpoint and football alumni to support their efforts but not necessarily financial. I don’t know why some fundraising type thing would be needed to add 3-10 or whatever staff to an office do mailings, phone calls, maintain databases (the Rutgers model to flood recruits). They can’t add coaches. I guess we might find out soon. Maybe in Manley we’ll see the Joe Morris Recruiting Office. :)

I think depth is our kryptonite , put a fairly talented team on the field to start season but the wear and tear seems to knock us down late in year.
Between injuries and the portal need depth
