As much as I loathe their fan base, the state of WV and their hillbilly blood, I really wish we could've continued that rivalry. I used to love watching our games against them. Both programs' fan bases strongly disliked one another, the game always held a different energy level and there seemed to be fierce battles/fights amongst the players. In light of the massive crumbling of the Big East, this is one of the rivalries that died in the process unfortunately. WVU shipped off to the Big 12, Syracuse to the ACC. WVU may not be on our schedule for years to come, but I'm hopeful that we will see them again in the next 5-7 years.
Some of you may say that the rivalry wasn't what it used to be, but I slightly disagree. Seeing the bitch-slapped look on Dana Holgorsen's face after the shellackings his teams received was priceless. Listening to their passionate, yet moronic fans make up excuse after excuse after excuse was classic. They assumed they would beat us, but we smoked them the last 2 times we met and beat them in a wild one in Morgantown in 2010. The hate and vitriol towards Syracuse was still alive and thriving in the hearts of the people in Bath Salts Hills and Kiss-your-sister-Ville. Well Jim Bob, Billy Joe Ray, John Boy and Annie Beth, we still strongly dislike you as well.
In the meantime, the Schwartzwalder Trophy will remain in Syracuse cozy as it could be. Our current 3 game winning streak against them brings a smile to my face and helps to fill this void in my never-ending appetite for Syracuse football. It is even sweeter thinking about the beating we gave Geno at Yankee Stadium and over the course of his final 3 seasons. Simply said, he got his ass whooped by our D. I mean whooped.
Until we meet again my toothless, hair-lipped foes, here's a few fond remembrances my fellow Syracuse friends can hang onto:
