    NOLA recs?

Shaya has been recommended big time. Modern take on Israeli. I guess the head chef left and opened Saba. Very similar menu...some things exactly the same. There was that whole John Besh sexual harassment/assault issues causing some schisms. Liuzza’s is on the list for under the radar...

    NOLA recs?

Once for sure. Everybody says they are great.

    NOLA recs?

Yup. The beignets will be probably the most of the ‘touristy’ stuff I will do but I hear they are tasty.

USC is NOT Firing Clay Helton

Devastated. He probably spent 5 min with Helton and said get me out of here.

Tomorrow has to be a win, plain and simple

The key is can we run our stuff against better competition now. The last 3 games were against some of the worst defenses we will have faced all year. Clemson will not Zone us. Can we get some separation on drives? Some decent airspace on all the long jumpers we will take? It’s still a very...

I would love a player like John Mooney on our team

We definitely saw a different game. I didn’t really see any of the lowering of the shoulder by Mooney. Certainly not to the point of warranting a foul. I saw some initiating contact which is fine but our guys can’t even hold up there. Also, our bigs rarely will get called for those types of...

    NOLA recs?

Is that cat Billy from Parasol’s an SU fan? Is that a potential ‘special’ spot to watch the game tommorow? I mean I can watch it anywhere down there obviously, even my hotel, but if he’s a Syracuse guy too then that would be cool.

Class of 2019 PG Symir Torrence (NY/Vermont Academy) Transferring from Marquette

That is true. Much less ‘talented’ players though. Doesn’t matter since he went to Marquette. I wonder if the fact that their PG dropped 40-something on Buffalo in Wojo’s system was a factor.
  9. SoBeCuse

I would love a player like John Mooney on our team

That’s simply not true re: Mooney. You can’t turn one or two possessions of a chicken wing and proclaim it’s happening every possession. The slightest bump and Sidibe/Marek/Chukwu pinball around from a guy like Mooney. He’s the kind of player who really makes our beanpoles look bad. He’s not...

Class of 2019 PG Symir Torrence (NY/Vermont Academy) Transferring from Marquette

Not trying to compare the two. I meant more that until we start improving the play on the court, get off the bubble, and start playing better than a middle of the pack ACC team, our name/brand as well as putting guys in the pros won’t mean as much as it could or should. It doesn’t surprise me...

Class of 2019 PG Symir Torrence (NY/Vermont Academy) Transferring from Marquette

A notch down but who cares. I don’t think we have the same cache and all time historical relevance with some of these kids. Seriously, these kids don’t know Coleman/Pearl/Owens. Melo? Waiters? When is the last good lead guard we had? Ennis? Four years ago already and he barely was around...

Class of 2019 PG Symir Torrence (NY/Vermont Academy) Transferring from Marquette

Cincinnati is a solid program and not some chump or third tier, IMO. They have been to 8 straight tourneys and play an aggressive style with swag. Fun place too. The area around campus is really hoppin right now and campus itself is a cool urban campus. Maybe he doesn’t want to sit back in...

Class of 2019 PG Symir Torrence (NY/Vermont Academy) Transferring from Marquette

There is room. We saw how things fared with the PG injuries going into this season. The more the merrier. If Boeheim is hellbent on running this dribble-drive business then we need more speed and more ballhandling out there. Not to mention we take too many risky combo guards, IMO.

Oregon’s Bol Bol may miss rest of season

Even 1/2 of the skillset of a Bol Bol and we’d be OK. Yeah his skills, footwork, handle is kind of insane for a guy that tall. He absolutely destroyed us. Disappointing how we couldn’t even slow him down. No resistance and Syracuse is probably the tallest collective/aggregate team in the...

Mike's Mailbox: Why not Quentin Hillsman to replace Jim Boeheim when time comes?

One can only hope. A self-made (pun intended) guy with experience like him who turned around a few programs and/or dominated at one. A fresh perspective and completely different/new approach would be fantastic, IMO.

Mike's Mailbox: Why not Quentin Hillsman to replace Jim Boeheim when time comes?

Pretty sure Self barely had any ties to Kansas previously. He was an errand boy assistant for one season there in the late 80s, I believe. No “coming home” per se. He was a HC at Oral Roberts, Tulsa, and obviously Illinois before getting the KU gig.

    Texas vs. UGA

Texas just outplayed them. They are capable of it. UGA tried. They are very young and were missing their best pass rusher. Texas has some diesel and good players all over the field. Just look at the size of those guys all over the place. All season they played well against good teams and...

    Sorry, but it is time...

I agree but this team needs to win. Carey is behind in terms of being able to run the point I suspect from an aptitude standpoint. I guess the offense is that complex. Battle can’t play there and is a hot mess. Donovan Mitchell slid right in to play PG beautifully when Quentin Snider got...

Class of 2019 PF Isaiah Stewart (NY/LaLumiereIN) to Washington

Hope there is a chance. This team needs a player like him if we’re going to do any serious damage in the tournament offensively and not just rely on that the Zone can flummox/hold down unfamiliar teams.

    Jonny Flynn

Speaking of uncoachable and this is OT for sure. But, I was watching some sort of SEC Network 30 for 30 style doc on Johnny Neumann yesterday. I didn’t really know about him. However, in the early 70s he was the most prolific scorer next to Maravich I guess during his time at Ole Miss. He...

    Jonny Flynn

The switch to man in that Kansas game at the Sprint Center in KC helped and arguably was the key factor in the comeback. That team had the personnel to play man. Not a bunch of beanpoles without the lateral agility/stiffness/long strides

    Exactly.

    Texas vs. UGA

Again, Texas has plenty of talent and plenty of dudes. From the beginning they were getting good push up front and UGA wasn’t getting a lot of separation from their DBs. Swift was relatively bottled up. UGA is a VERY young team. They lost a bunch of players last year to the draft who went in...

Notre Dame at VT at 1 pm today.

Just crazy. If country and modern country isn’t bad enough; to have that spectacle there is just mind-boggling. Put that garbage in the SEC somewhere. I won’t even get into the other hockey scenario.
  28. SoBeCuse

    Texas vs. UGA

Maybe but when UT decides to play they have the talent, size, and physicality to beat anybody. I think UGA is missing a stud pass rusher though. Just look at the size of some of UT’s LBs, DBs, interior linemen, etc.

    Texas vs. UGA

Yep. Good call re: Ehlinger on LSU. Ha. Trojans were bad but didn’t quite know it back then during that early season game.

    Texas vs. UGA

This freshman class is really good. Last year’s too. Herman brought a LOT of tougness back to the program but they play up/down re: their opponents. USC is soft as charmin but they could NOT bring these guys down in the open field in Austin and were getting blown up by UT defenders. Ehlinger...

    Texas vs. UGA

FWIW and it is pretty evident watching Texas games this year. During the USC game the color guy (I think it was Brock Huard) said that pregame he was walking around during warmups and talking to the many scouts/NFL guys there. The consensus was that next to Alabama, Texas had the most...

    Washington vs. Ohio St

Regardless, those games were on the schedules. Trust me, I’m a USC guy and know how bad it is. Leach is awesome. Kingsbury coming in to bailout Helton should be great for SC. They should be a lot better. I don’t know what it is. Recruiting is very high with USC and a pretty high level with...

    Washington vs. Ohio St

The conference is bad for sure but USC beat Texas last year at the Coliseum. Granted they escaped late with some Darnold heroics and were outplayed most of the game. UCLA also beat aTm with Rosen. There are other examples also. But, for sure, the conference overall sucks these days.

    WV hiring Neal Brown

Oh for sure Winston-Salem over Morgantown. No question. I’ve been to both as well. Crazy how mountainous and steep that campus and area is. Gondolas/ski lifts taking kids and people around campus. But, the city and general area is really trashy, depressed, and downtown Morgantown suucks...

    Sorry, but it is time...

Oh I’m all for it. There will be athletes moving forward in which we just can’t go 1-on-1 and beat which is probably what JB prefers, IMO. Gonna have to have some plan B’s, god forbid.
  37. SoBeCuse

    Sorry, but it is time...

We saw more movement and cutting without the ball the past two games. Really good. What troubles me is that it took some dire straits to add these tweaks. Basic basketball for sure but stuff we haven’t seen run here recently. We heard JB and players talk about adding new things, adding more...

    The transition from Dungey

Good thread. ND still overmatched us in the trenches that day. Not sure how much Dungey could’ve done. Depends on the OL. However, DeVito will have the best collection of skill players around him since McNabb. I suspect ‘managing the game’ will still yield some big numbers.

    UCLA fires Steve Alford

I obviously follow the conference. A hot mess. I don’t remember much UCLA hype from anybody here. Surprised ASU is doing pretty well. USC and UCLA have had horrendous starts. USC has a LOT of talent too. I’m beginning to question Enfield. They have had some injuries but at times they play...

Possibly the best passing and cutting I’ve seen from a Boeheim team in years. I didn’t think St. Bona would be this bad. They REALLY miss those players from last year. That’s as sloppy a performance as one will see. Nice to see the team relatively engaged from the start. Hopefully they can...

Uh, not following. Create havoc? Full on Pitino aggressive style? Would be fun but this team doesn’t have the personnel/horses or the speed for that.
