Bryant to Indiana

All this talk about Bryant wanting to be far from home. The part that I do not understand is that supposedly he hasn't heard from the staff in months. What gives with that ? Why would he possibly want to go where he wasn't wanted ? Why wouldn't the staff not want him ?

I am looking for some answers here...

You can't handle the truth. ;)

It sounded like he left on good terms, so I don't know what JB said.

It doesn't matter what terms they left on, what do you think Jb said to him?

Let me say this... As far as Chris goes... it is what it is. He needs to make the decision for himself ... be as it may the dice will fall and best of luck. As far as TB goes though... when SU supposedly made no contact with a kid for alledgedly 2 months ... what are we saying and doing. Don't know ... I'm still confused by purportedly lack of any efforts or activity!

He's an 18 year old kid, disappointing your parents is fairly typical at that age.
maybe he won't sign his LOI

Uh, most of this couldn't be more wrong. Bryant is a credible post scorer, shot blocker, and inside presence. He also would've brought energy, toughness and an intimidating aura. This is a huge loss and Bryant would've been a gigantic get.
I question his judgment. The three other schools were all better options than Indiana. He's got some primadonna to him. Time to Battle!

Ultimately, there was no smokescreen. He wanted to go elsewhere. I have an issue with the thinking that TB wouldn't have been a huge addition. (I'm not putting you in that category.)

I didn't think we were definitely going to get Bryant until CM announced, after that I felt everything was in place. He would have been great here. This isn't the end of the world though, the end of the world comes if we don't land Battle. Now we can guarantee him a spot, he wants to announce soon and we tend to do better with guys that don't enjoy "the process" of recruiting. What gives me pause, even though I feel like we are in great position with him, is that he added Kentucky back on to his list. For a kid that sounded close to a decision, that's a head scratcher to me. We simply don't have the time in with another impact recruit in that class, aside from Giles who I think everyone here realizes is a pipe dream, to recover. The way Battle goes is the way the program goes, if we get him we demonstrate we can still compete for top talent and I think we'll be just fine. If we miss on him I think we are in trouble.

I want to add that a big beneficiary of the C-Mac and TB news could be Lydon. Obviously , now Diagne is a big component but Lydon needs to hit the weight room and help us as soon as possible. He is a very good rebounder but he has a Gandhi physique (I think I just channeled Cali .) I wasn't anticipating that a couple weeks ago.

DC: 6'9", 250 pounds
CO: 6'10", 220 pounds
TL: 6'9", 200 pounds
MD: 6'9", 245 pounds

TL might be able to play the 5. They list Obokoh as 6'10" but I did not think he looked that tall last season. I wish we got a little more out Obokoh. Maybe he will play better this upcoming season.

The nice thing about TL is he's got a really nice looking mid-range jump shot. If DC's knee doesn't last then Diagne is going to have to carry a big load next season.

Craig, great post. The only sentence I disagree with you is you saying that we have to demonstrate to Battle that we can bring in top talent. Battle is not really worried about the roster composition down the line, just in 2016. He knows what the roster will look like in 2016, batting any defections.

I loved your point about SU doing better with recruits who don't enjoy "the process" of recruiting. Spot on.

Battle is like a lightning bolt. If we get him it will be a huge get. But a lot of schools are after Battle. I'm not sure we are going to get him.

Well, considering that SU and its coaches had been recruiting him the longest out of anyone, maybe they just got tired of the STROKE.

We agree more than you realize. My wording was awkward, I don't think we need to demonstrate anything to Battle. He knows Malachi and Diange better than we do probably and that's a good thing. I think by landing Battle we prove to future recruits we are still a program that's desirable to top tier talent.

Now that you edited your post above I follow you. Yes, landing Battle would show we are still a big fish in the recruiting waters.

He's got a tone of offers:

I would be very surprised if we got him. It would be so awesome if we did get him but the other schools on his list have been doing pretty well lately.

We really needed RP to make a better contribution this year. And when the time comes we are really going to need Howard to make a big contribution. And of course we really need Malachi to be a legitimate superstar. Although Malachi did not have a good McDonald's All American game he did hit five 3-pointers during his team's championship game. And he was player of the year in NJ.

We are in great position with Battle, especially now that we can guarantee him a spot. That said I am by no means making any guarantees that he will come here. But when he chooses he will be choosing between us and someone else, of that I have no doubt. That's a good spot to be in with someone as talented as he is.

I sure hope so. It would be so awesome to get Battle. The kid is really fast.

There are a lot of poor families that have babies in in this country, and make it work. I don't know their economic situation, but I do know this. His stock is never going to be lower than it is now, he has picked the worst possible time to leave school.

Didn't you get pissed at Ennis for leaving, even though his stock was at its best it was going to be.

Do you think Malachi will be one-and-done?

The funny thing is we'll now have 2 NJ POYs (Roberson and Richardson), a NH POY (Joseph), a DE POY (Cooney), and a NY POY (DC2). At least I think that is true for Coleman, correct me if I'm wrong. We're looking at being able to run an entire lineup of one-time state player of the year recipients and the starter who isn't one is our best player (MG). This is at the rock-bottom nadir for our program, mind you.

No personally I don't think so, but IMO has the potential to be two and done. Others would be more qualified to answer though.

I thought tyler should have come back, but at least tyler was a first round pick, Chris might not even get drafted because of his injury.

Can you imagine how HUGE of mistake it will be if he doesn't get drafted!

I hope DC2's knee hold up next season. And I hope Malachi is the solid outside threat who makes baskets under pressure we've need for so many years. Malachi did hit five 3-point shots during his team's state championship game. He may be our savior.

I think TR will be our x-factor next year. He may really be in the edge of becoming a superstar player.
