FWIW, strong possibility of PINSTRIPE Bowl

Never gonna happen, Nova game is on CBS.

We could have a whole thread on how the college football schedule is altered for TV but not for basketball. While it irks me sometimes that we have to wait for football times, it bothers me that basketball games, good or bad, are locked before the season.

As far as what the outcome of the game means, yes. It's win or go home. Bowl games are win or lose and go home, the only difference being the winners get a big shiny trophy to display in their stadiums, even if they only won 7 games on the year.
Fair enough but I would not argue too much about teams with 6-6 records. There have been teams with losing records make March Madness.

Guys, we moved to the ACC for football, I believe. ACC basketball appears to be an inferior product right now.

i've stopped in the timmy's just south on 37 that opened last fall. i've got a camp on charleston lake ontario. i've done some summer work in O-burg and recognize busters in the background.( sewer issues my last visit)
How are the prices at Charleston Lake, Ontario like for a camp? You can find smaller camps (light fixers) for $100-130k on Pillar Point near Watertown.

BTW, OBurgOrange...we need to have you bring your camper down to Pillar Point next summer...Cuseregular and I are less than 1 mile apart.

BTW, love Cuse hoops...but the bowl game takes priority. We've been to 4 freaking bowls in 13 years.

Why we arguing hoops vs football in the football fourm, 90 percent of the posters in hoops don't come over here or prob don't support football. I'm like Canadiansu Cuse football for me no matter what. Support all Cuse sports like lax and hoops but football all day for me.

this is unfortunate that the Pinstripe Bowl is the same day as the Nova game. I was really looking forward to attending the Nova game.

With that said after hoping for any bowl for the past decade football comes first. I only care about 2 programs, Syracuse Football, and Basketball. I love both equally, and I would think it would be a no brainer for anyone who says they care equally for both programs. Let's not act like going to a bowl is our right. just 5 years ago we would have been celebrating. I have seen Nova at the dome with 33k+, I think I can miss a Decemeber non-conference game with them.

With that said I really hope it's another bowl, although I really enjoy the Pinstripe Bowl.
This is a beautiful and accurate post. well done.

And no offense to you, but who is going to care that we won 3 pinstripe bowls in 4 years with a 4 year record of 28-23? Not many people outside of Syracuse. Sure, it's something nice to pitch to recruits, but other than them, who is getting that message? Is ESPN going to be running stories on it? I sure don't think so.

it's a bowl game. i am sure fired up about going to a bowl. this is a huge step for this program. we are just trying to get back to the point where bowl games should be expected, not a surprise. this is a huge game for the program. and as for who cares about what that's really meaningless. not many people will care about a dec hoops game between Nova and Cuse. it only now matters a little because Nova is ranked. The ratings for the bowl game will certainly be higher , so nationally the bowl game will be bigger. Last years Pinstripe Bowl was one of the highest rated of any of the non-BCS games I believe. But back to the point this is a game that will get mentioned to recruits for the next few years. I don't even think it's comparable when talking about importance, and this is coming from a guy who is 50/50 between Cuse hoops and football

Im sorry but if fans are going to a regular season basketball game that no one outside of syracuse cares about than idk what to think anymore.
I guess I don't see your point. Both games are essentially meaningless. Go to whichever you prefer but don't insult people that don't have the same preference as you.

Football vs bball argument is ridiculous. I support all SU sports even though i prefer bball. I dont blame some bball only posters for only posting on the bball board especially when the fball board makes threads on how the fball posters are superior to the ones who mostly post on the bball board only. Lame.

You sure?

6-6 Syracuse vs 6-6 Rutgers will have better TV ratings than Top 5 Syracuse vs Top 10 Nova?

i would think so. nobody really cares for cbb. the ratings these espn games gets are surprisingly minuscule

I nominate for most pointless thread of the year. Skipped from page one to page four and missed nothing.

Also, I'd watch the bowl game over the bball game. There's a third less football games than bball games and thus are more valuable.

http://www.sportsmediawatch.com/201...tball-bowl-tv-ratings-bcs-sec-top-the-charts/

last year's Pinstripe Bowl got a 3.4. That's really good

http://www.sportsmediawatch.com/201...ratings-numbers-for-most-of-the-games-so-far/

last year Duke/UK got a 2.0. Also see how it says cbb has extremely low ratings.

this is a give in the bowl game will almost triple the Cuse-Nova game

I'd think that nobody outside the Northeast would have any interest in two 6-6 Northeast football teams.

Meanwhile, the basketball game is on CBS National at 2 PM, followed by Louisville at Kentucky at 4 PM.

I guess we'll see.

As a huge fan of both BBall and football I think, if you must pick, you go with the more important game nationally or historically, which in this case would be the Nova game. To put it in perspective for the football 1st guys, say a number 3 ranked football team was playing and early season OOC game against number 10 Michigan at home while the basketball team was playing an NIT game in MSG (yes I know the seasons don't line up that way lol). Ideally we'd support both, but if there was a conflict it'd be pretty obvious which game would be the priority.

I'm fine with the Pinstripe again. Right now the program needs a bowl game, and we can't be too picky.

The Pinstripe Bowl has a good payout, 2 mil per team, and good ratings. The 12:15 PM start time kinda sucks, the previous three games were played around 3:30 PM, could harm ratings slightly.

2012 Syracuse vs West Virginia 3.4
2011 Rutgers vs Iowa State 2.14
2010 Syracuse vs Kansas State 2.26

If you live in Syracuse go to the basketball game. If you live in New York go to the football game. If you live outside of those areas watch both on TV. Problem solved.

Holy moly. This thread is ridic. Are people really trying to tell others they love one sport more than the other based upon which game they might attend? It's not even apples to apples. One might attend the bball game because of cost, or convenience or other commitments. Some people at view the bowl as having a big significance other than it's a reward the team for a good season. Others may view the bball game as just a meaningless December game.

I love both. Attended both for 50 years, have 6 seasons to both, donate to both. Been to bowl games, been to final 4's. Whichever I choose to do if the conflict arises, does NOT say I love that sport more. I might go to the Pinstripe but right now I lean to the bball game. But until we know if there is in fact a conflict I reserve the right to change my mind as to which of my loved SU teams I go see.

I'm like a broken record, but I don't give a damn. The Pinstripe Bowl is a great experience for Syracuse Football fans. Bowl game > bball game. Just me.
