Marrone is not a Jet

He's really lucky. Getting out of the AFCE is the smartest thing he could do for himself.

Saint Doug is not cut out for the NY media market (not sure who is). I keep thinking that he will eventually will wind up with the Titans in a year or two.

It is what it is.

Just to make sure a little of old Buffalo makes its way to NYC, it appears Bowles is looking to bring in Grandpa Chan as OC.

Hope he never has to drive in that traffic.

Doug interviewed with the Bears today so still a chance he gets a job where the media will tear him apart.

And Tom Coughlin is? It's all about winning. Win in NY and you won't get shat on. Tom did it. Marrone did it in Buffalo and fans still shat on him. No wonder he wanted out.

4 million dollar consultant.

Nice gig.

If he voluntarily gives up one of the 32 prime positions expecting to get a better one and he falls flat? Not good.

Coughlin is tough and thick-skinned enough to deal very well in NYC. Many are. Not sure Marrone is yet.

Marrone might be best in a town where he can be bigger than the media. I think he's a good coach that will be back with a HC title, but if reports about his controlling nature ring true, he doesn't need the biggest market to be very successful.

I don't think that's really what he did. He knew the front office didn't like him and would likely fire him in a year. Coaches are rarely hired immediately after being fired (with the exception of Rex this year), so instead, he gets to get paid like a HC for a year while having an improved chance at getting a new gig next year.

At the end of the day, he didn't feel comfortable with his superiors in Buffalo and didn't feel comfortable with the direction that they were taking the rebuild in, so he got out.

He's an idiot. These jobs can often go to the coaches du jour. A year away from the carousel could deem him irrelevant since he doesn't have the track record like a Vermeil/Gibbs who could step away for years and then come back. Guy will be a coordinator going forward. He got bad advice. He would have been better served coaching this year and making it hard for the Bills to fire him with a solid season vs leaving in a huff.

My mom used to say to me "smart, smart, smart, smart - stupid"

In other words, don't outsmart yourself.

Perhaps that is what Marrone has done.

Or perhaps he has certain requirements that he refuses to compromise.

Time will tell.

coughlin has 2 rings, 9 playoff appearances, and needs to lose 26 in a row to be 2 games under 500 like marrone. give me a break comparing them

Comparing Marrone to Coughlin is beyond laughable. Just looking at his BC track record, he got BC ranked in like his second year. Marrone never had a season like that at Syracuse and BC was wayyy down like SU.

He's not going to become irrelevant in a year. Enough NFL people have liked him for a while that he'll be considered next year.

Does he look better to GM/owners, working as a consultant, or leading the Bills to a 6-10 record w/ EJ at the helm?

Marring a long resume, Coughlin is struggling at the end of his tenure with the Giants. Marrone has a short resume, but he has two re-builds in two tries.

he should be a GM but the only owner that would hire him would be a lousy owner. this guy doesn't like having bosses. maybe he should buy an arena football team

This was why I commented the other day that people overthink the debate about a coach being "great".

Coughlin inherited a BC program that was every bit as bad as Robinson-era SU, and was coming off a massive gambling scandal, and had them ranked as high as 9th in his second season.

Marrone beat 2 FCS teams and got to the Pinstripe Bowl, never sniffing the top 25, in year 2.

Then Coughlin took the expansion Jags to the AFC Championship game in their 2nd year of existence.

Marrone went 9-7 in year 2 with a gift win against a Pats team that wasn't trying to get that winning record.

Oh, and Coughlin won two Super Bowls.

Marrone's "rebuilding" resume pales terribly in comparison.

So I guess he'd have about a 70% shot of getting a GM position at some point. Sexton should have gotten to Snyder two weeks ago.

I like Marrone and he's not in the same league as Coughlin for the reasons people mentioned. Good luck to whoever gets to follow him with the Giants.
