Where is Taurean...?

Curious why the article talks about his eligibility for the upcoming season but only mentions the point about whether SU will release him. Several posters on here have made the point that TT will not play for another college team this year, regardless of whether SU releases him, due to the fact that the family medical hardship exception doesn't exist anymore. Seems like if TT is really hanging his hat on the family med. exception, and that's a no-go, then whether SU releases him or not is moot.

The very end of the article is pretty clear about it. If he is not granted a release he would have to pay for college next season. If he is, he could commit to Seton Hall but would not be able to play in the coming season.

I honestly don't think he'll be missed. he was not a transformative player who is the difference between a winning and losing season. in case of injury, he could've made a difference but I think Brissett, Moyer and Sidibe will all prove to be more talented at both ends of the court. those three rotating in the front court (with Battle joining at SF from time to time) while Howard/Thorpe/Battle sharing time in the backcourt is a classic Boeheim rotation, short on players but long on talent & minutes. JB has won 24 games and made the 2nd weekend with less talent than that. I'm agnostic on Dolezaj and Chukwu and Washington but there's your depth. and Hughes gives you 10 to practice with. sky has not fallen.

He could be given a scholarship by Seton Hall University in a similar fashion that SU gave Elijah Hughes. Like Elijah, Tauren would have to sit out the basketball season.

Hughes requested permission to talk to other schools and was granted a release. In other words he did it right. Thompson did none of those things.

Meant if given his release,he

Correct but I Meant that if he was given a release, he could receive a scholarship if the school had one available.

I think he should come back and S T F Ph U and play. Otherwise, I like both of these (other) options.

Oops, skipped over that. Thanks.

The difference was that the recruit signed an LOI early and Syracuse agreed/choose not to recruit anyone else at that position. It is a binding commitment both to the recruit and the school. Hart had a brother in California who was quite ill when he originally signed early in the recruiting season with Syracuse. He knew about his brother's condition when he signed with Syracuse. Some time later, alledgedly after recruited by UCLA, Hart wanted out of the commitment. Boeheim stood his ground and would not release Jason Hart from his commitment. Guess what, Jason Hart stayed all 4 years with Syracuse. Looking back, he could have transferred anytime after he came to Syracuse. For some reason, he never did.

Here's the story. Jim Harrick was recruiting Olujimi Mann, a highly rated PG at the time, much higher than Hart. Mann committed to UCLA. Hart was always a Cuse guy and had zero reservations about playing away from his family, even with his brother's condition. He signed his LOI with SU and all was well. Unfortunately for Harrick, Mann wasn't going to qualify academically. He was hosed. That's when he started pressuring Jason to come to UCLA and even fed him the crap that they could get a hardship waiver if he played up his brother's illness. The minute JB got wind of what was going down, he made it crystal clear there was no way in hell Jason would get a release. He knew Harrick was playing Hart, and he was not only looking out for SU, but for Jason. Harrick was a snake. UCLA didn't let him go because of a fudged expense report. They let him go because he did some shady shite that could have opened the door to NCAA investigators. The Hart mess was the beginning of the end for him in Westwood. In the end, JB did the right thing, the Hart family was behind him 100% when all was said and done, and Jason had a great career because he worked his ass off. And Harrick went on to disgrace himself a second time at Georgia.

If Seton Hall tampered with TT, even remotely, JB can't simply look the other way. TT and his mom owe JB an explanation. If JB grants a release, then I'm good with his decision. If he doesn't, same thing. He'll know if something fishy happened, and he should act accordingly if it did. JB will not do TT wrong even though he probably deserves a hard lesson. It's not his style. But he will make sure a point is made. TT may not ever play for the Hall, release or not. If they tampered, they'll be blocked.

Interesting that no immediate eligiblity for health reasons anymore. I am actually for that as the excuse can probably be abused too easily and hard to draw the line and what consititutea justification.

That's exactly why the legislation regarding hardship transfers was changed.

End of the Story "Where is Taurean Thompson?"

He is enrolled at Seton Hall University,

Headline: Momma wins. Suffers from Separation Anxiety. Taurean loses. Suffers from Mother Complex.
Seton Hall wins and loses. receives Thompson for 2018-2019 season but loses because they also gain Momma as a daily consultant.

Is the story really over?
