BC is in the ACC, why hasnt it helped them?
That's a clown response. The PAC 12 has one more NC than BC since 1996.
The facts strongly suggest that conference maters over the last 20 years.

BC is a hockey school.
They haven’t been to a Final Four.

The PAC-12 has had 1 school reach the Final Four in 2010s.
Oregon 2017.

UCLA made it 3 years in a row 2007-2009.
No other PAC-12 has made the Final Four since 2001 Arizona.

It’s not a great conference.

Stop tossing actual results into a debate about whether the conference matters.

I dont see that being a yearly thing.

I could see that happening again this year especially if they don’t beat Gonzaga. They have few chances to beat top 25 teams. It’s just the nature of that league with the California schools being mostly uncompetitive.

Why didnt he interview? Why didn't he interview for UCLA?
No serious coach is touching UCLA.
They ran Ben Howland out because they didn’t like how his teams played when they reached 3 Final Fours in a row.
That alumni base thinks it can still the program can be John Wooden days.

Hop would have faced worse scrutiny from them than his 9 games here.
Final Fours aren’t good enough for UCLA they only care about NCs and nobody has gotten them since 1995.

Hop’s agents at CAA used the fake interest from UCLA to get stuff from Washington.

I have been following Syracuse sports for 45 years. It isn't as much fun anymore. The league switch. Our teams not being as good as we hoped. For years, I would say each week that I am going to the casino to play poker on Saturday and week after week, I stay home and watch the football team. I can't speak for others, but this week, i am playing poker. Might miss Friday nights hoop game as well. 45 years.
I've been watching for over 60 years. Been through a lot of ups and downs but way more ups than downs. Am I disappointed in what I see know - yes - but I'll still be in my seat at the Dome and my recliner at home when the Orange play.

You didn’t answer the question. Do you think he seriously considered the Pitt job two years ago?

Our next head coach has to have a proven record as a great recruiter. This person is not currently on our staff.

I think Hop will be who is targeted and he will have the most difficult decision of his life to make.

Truly? On a tactical level? Asking because I really have no idea where he stands

Yes. It’s been like that since he was young. Went to elementary and played travel bball with him and known him my whole life and when he gets to a solid program he is going to do great things. Recruiting will be interesting to see how he does but it says a lot that a 32 year old is coaching a division I team regardless of how things unfolded with Beilein.

Yea if he keeps getting the talent he is and the results on the court then it wont be a yearly thing. It's stupid to think it will be. Look at Arizona's tournament seeds over the years...(they have been pretty good) Hes getting the players and once he keeps getting results consistently then he will be rewarded for that. Why cant UW be like Arizona with Hop at the wheel? Seems like all the pieces are in place for success there.

Roy Williams literally already did this.
He was at Kansas. Kansas is a top 5 job. He left a top 5 job for another top 5 job because it was his Alma Mater and they needed him.
Roy went to 2 title games at Kansas and 4 Final Fours. Had the consensus number one team in 1997 and got upset.
Roy went back.
Hop could be at Washington 15 years turn the program into a rival of Arizona and the Syracuse program could coming calling beg him to restore glory and he could come back just like Roy.

Kansas gave Roy all the love and support. Alma mater and home matter.
UNC is a top 2 job. Syracuse is not.

Moving from Lawrence to Chapel Hill is a major upgrade. Guess what I'm going to say about Seattle to Syracuse.

Why are national championships won in each league even a discussion? Doesnt the acc have more teams in the tourney every year over the pac 12 making their chances of winning one greater? I dont think anyone would argue that the ACC as a whole is a better league. Arent we talking about getting a good tournament seed and making the tournament consistently each year? If hop can start getting good tourney seeds and make the tournament every year then doesnt he have just as good of a chance at winning a NC with one school in the pac12 as he does if he was a coach of a school in the acc? I dont think his chances of tournament success are better being in the acc then the pac 12. It's about making the tournament and tournament seeding. If he continues to reel in 5 star talent and starts running the table in the pac 12 then he will start getting good seeds unlike last year. That won't be a yearly thing if he starts having success.

Roy Williams was at Kansas and went home to North Carolina.
Money wasn’t why he went home.
If the administration went to Hop like UNC did with Roy I think he would come back.
I just don’t know if Syracuse will do it.
Washington doesn’t have the potential Syracuse does.
It’s always going to be football first.
Syracuse will always be basketball first.
More talent on the East coast than west coast.

I am not saying Hop would come back but the notion he won’t because of Washington isn’t true.
I think it’s more likely we won’t pursue hard than him declining.

I could definitely see a trajectory similar to Dean Smith -> Roy Williams.

Which means there’s a decent chance things get quite a bit worse before they get better.

Hop will get a phone call. Depending on how his Dad is, he may or may not want to leave the West Coast.

Red will get an interview.

After that, they'll see who's available.

It won't be Tony Bennett and it won't be Jay Wright.

If you want a HC with experience, he'll have to come from a lower P5 school or a Mid-Major.

If you want an up and coming assistant, they'll be plenty to choose from, including Red.

There's a lot of gray area between "Tony Bennett/Jay Wright" and "lower P5/mid-major".

That's the gray area I expect us to be in, if Hop doesn't come back.

I'd be much more interested in hiring a known quantity and offering more money. Need to pony up.

Agreed. Any coach that’s winning at a P5 program that’s not a blue blood should be considered. We’re Syracuse and have more to offer than most of those programs.

Say Hop tears it up at UW, he wins the league every year, he reloads year in and year out, he puts up a great record, he gets a top 4 seed pretty much every year and UW is annually mentioned as a FF contender. That sounds a whole lot like Few at Gonzaga and he's not going anywhere. Sentiment only goes just so far and if Hop's got a great gig going and he's making good money in a program he built from scratch, that's pretty much just like his mentor did when he was Hop's age. And Seattle's a cool place to live. If he leaves UW for SU, those heart strings tugging on him will have to be strung pretty tight. Going back in time to go forward in life or in your career hardly ever works.

Pretty much nails it. Plus Seattle has a pretty good HS basketball scene, some good players.

Washington will never care about hoops like Syracuse does.
They can sign the top recruits.
That fanbase cares about beating Oregon in football.

It's a state college. Not a private college.
They may not get East Coast TV eyeballs, but they can be Top 4 in their league for as long as he wants to stay there. They like him, and he's making a very good salary for a first time head coach.

Do not underestimate the power of a mans wife and her needs and desires. Syracuse is her home and always will be
Didn't contemplate that but interesting element.

I think Wildhack and his experience at ESPN helps him here. I think he will honor JB when he goes and he will be sure Red gets a legit interview. I also think he runs a formal search and I am also betting he already has a list of 5 or 6 names he keeps updated.

If we have to endure 13 more years of futility before the admins muster the humility to get on their knees I will no longer follow college basketball.

Few didn’t play for a basketball power and then coach there his entire career. He went to Oregon, and then he’s coached at Gonzaga his entire career including starting there as an assistant. He doesn’t have a b-ball power out there that he spent 30 years at to leave for.

Say JB leaves when he is scheduling to leave, the 2021 guys that Hop is on and Washington leans are guys that will make them a contender. Banchero is a top 5 guy who will probably end up there, Washington is also on Kuminga who is the top guy in the class. Not saying he gets both, but say he does or hell even 1, why would he leave a squad with these NBA talents who will be mixed with some guys who will be upper class for our current and not improving situation.

A lot can change if Hop is recruiting top 5 guys if one and done rule changes. Any top 10/15 recruit is most likely going to gamble on skipping school and going straight to league. Players union is working hard on this to get it changed ASAP. And the wiseman scenario is only speeding it up even more
